I am planning on taking the blue Valiant race car to the Mopars in the Park car show on Saturday. I have never really done this before and I need some advice from those of you that show cars regularly. What should I bring? Should I make up some kind of sign or poster, how detailed should it be? Should you stay with the car or just do what you would normally do? How do you deal with adverse weather? Any other tips that you have. Thanks, Seymour

I would clean everything you can while keeping in mind, it is a race car. Rubber on the quarters looks great in my opinion.

Bring a cooler, a chair (or two so I can visit with you), and some food unless you are really into the expensive deep fried food at the fairgrounds.

A sign is nice, especially with a unique car as yours.

I never sit by my car. I wander. Especially at Mopars in the Park!

Chris, all good advice.

One can never have his car too clean, and don’t park next to the guy with mirrors attached to the underside of his hood with every nut, bolt, and cobweb chrome plated. Every show has several of these cars. Not only will you need to dawn a welding helmet if the sun is out that day to be just near his engine compartment, but it will make any new off the show room floor car look like a pig pen.

Most of the shows I attend are 100 miles or more away, so I use spray quick detailer shine stuff once I land & get parked, and give the car a quick clean up.

A nice list of modifications, not too detailed, that is easily read at a glance, is a very good touch. Someone that is really interested will catch up with you sooner or later to get the dirty details.

Cooler of cold water, sun screen, and enough cash for that hot sausage fix, or whatever man-fuel is beckoning to your salivary glands that day.

As for adverse weather, sit in the car until it passes, umbrella, or stay home. Wet car shows suck after about the first five minutes.

When I bring a drag car to a car show, I always make it look like I just pulled-in from racing... and shoe polish on a super-low dial-in time onto to the windows.
That never fails to get some discussions going.
"Holy cow... that's a fast Slant Six car..."
Or " No way this car is that fast..."

Thanks for all the ideas everybody. I made up a collage of Slant 6 race cars, group pictures, and some information about my car and then had it all laminated in case if rain. Its about 16 X 24" so I can just put it on the windshield. I'll bring two chairs, a cooler filled with Diet Pepsi, my pretzels, a hat, some sunblock, and a book to read. I actually waxed the car and I am going to install some trim pieces that have never been on the car before. If nobody comes by I'll bring some show polish and do the dial in thing like Doug suggested.

I'll let you know how it goes. Lou, I saw Neal last night at a little car show they had at his work. He is busy this weekend and isn't going to be at Mopars In the Park.

Here is another "tip", see if you can get a show spot that is close to a bunch of high dollar Hemi cars.
I always get a kick out of seeing people walk right past those to take a real close look at a SL6 car!

Chris is right, about noon it started raining so hard that it was no fun to be outside. I spent most of the afternoon in my Blazer keeping dry. I left the hood off the car most of the day and many people stopped to look but I wasn't there most of the time. Remarkably it started right up so I could put it back on the trailer in the rain. Steve Nitti's Duster was there (inside a building) and has actually run but needs some additional finishing. It looks great. There were lots of interesting exhibits indoors and good things to eat, the highlight of the day was the delicious pork chop on a stick that I had.

It was only drizzling in the morning when I checked out the swap meet. There was quilte a bit of interesting stuff available which is amazing considering how much stuff changes hands on the internet. There were 2 totally complete 8 3/4 A body rear axles, one had a 3.91 posi for $700 and another with an open diff for $300. There were also two open 8 3/4 small stem carriers one with a 3.55 and one with a 3.91 for $50. There was a very nice looking 66 Barracuda V8 for $3200.

All in all I quess I am just not a car show person but it was good to learn exactly how it works if I ever wanted to do it again on a nicer day.

Rain & car show don’t mix as well as water & oil. On a sunny warm day you can’t go wrong, people hang & yak, and even the hot dogs taste better. Give it another whorl on a nice day.
