Ceej,

Check out TSR Racing Products in NH for their governor kits. They list only A727, but I suspect these kits will fit a 904.

That was almost the same thing I sent him, he doesn't want that.

LOL, yeah… It is what he wants, however, I have gotten to know Ceej from reading his posts, and he would like to make one him self out of shaved nickels & ball point pen springs or something, to keep the cost down. I can’t blame him one bit going the home made route. If I had the rigging to make stuff out back, I would do the same.

Trial & error experimenting with this device would be so time consuming. Pulling a governor, rebuilding it and reassembling for a test drive each time; that 80 bucks for a store bought kit wouldn’t cover the cost of the beer…LOL

Carl H. Munroe, author of “Torqueflite A-727 Transmission Handbookâ€￾ owns & runs TSR Racing Products. Perhaps a few phone calls querying weight & spring strength form the tech hot-line, to a few of these guys selling this stuff, would yield the recipe. They all have 800 numbers after all!!!

Carl’s book was quite helpful for me last year as a virgin tranny… (oops, that doesn’t sound so good dose it), rather first time ever opening a 904 to make a few modifications, and general tune-up. Perhaps that helpfulness would be available at TSR’s tech desk as well.

Ceej, keep us posted on your findings.

I made the govenor weight in my 63 Dodge on the lathe using the old one as a giude with a picture of the Hemi one that used to be available beside it. t works well although it stuck for the first two days a couple of times . Just when i was about to pull it it began to work and has worked ever since . I know have 40,000 miles on the trans with no trouble. It shifts at 5850 under full throttle. There used to be a pic on the 1962 to 1965 website tech section of the one I built but it has vanished .
I tried making one from memory for my /6 rail but I am not totally thrilled with it. It doesnt give me enough RPM and is shifting about 4300 which is not really too far from stock. I want to shift above 5000 (max torque) and would love to stretch it out to 5800 or 5900. I have put a full kit in another valve body and will try it this weekend to see if I get enough or even any improvement. 727 and 904 govenors will interchange.
If I dont get any rise in shift points from the trans kit I will spend the $ for an A & A gvennor kit. When driving a rail and having only two hands when really you need three and auto upshift is a Godsend. Expecially when your hair is grey.
