It's not a slant but I'm sure you guys can help.

I just rebuild my pushbutton 727 for my 57 Plymouth, Poly 318. Finally got it installed..everything hooked up..cranked the car..and nothing...

No driving gears at all...car acts as if its in neutral in all gear selections...a real big bummer!

I pulled one of my cooling lines off and it appeared as if no fluid had gone through it.

I'm assuming either oil pump or torque converter probs? I did install a new DACCO torque converter. Is there anything else that can be tested before having to jerk this thing back out?

Another thing is that I noticed that I couldn't rotate the flange on the back of the transmission with my hands for some reason, it could move back and forth but was stopped by something besides the parking sprag...it was moving earlier however. I don't know if the new bands and disks could cause that much friction? I did lube everything prior to assembling.

EDIT: I should add that its a 1964 model aluminum 727.

I would let someone that knows torqueflites chime in on this but this maybe a case of late converter in a early transmission

I would guess that as well. You need to make sure the 'vertor input spline count and size matches your pre'66 trans input shafts. I did this once with a late converter in an early trans.

I'll have to check that out...Its just a real big pain having to pull the transmission back out after all that!

The torque converter did say it was made for '62-'66 applications...and they seemed to know what they were doing but who knows?

But thats typical..nothing ever goes right the first time...

I did this once. Yes, lots of fun pulling it back out... They could have misboxed the part, or it might be something else entirely, but this seems most likely to me.

Did the converter go all the way in, 2 sets of splines and into the pump drive slots?
Was there space between the converter and the flex plate when you bolted the two together? (did you have to pull the converter forward to start the bolts?)

Yes, the converter was all the way in...that took forever to get it to line up and go in. It had to come forward less than an inch to attach to the flex plate.

That is correct, the torque converter has to be pull to the flex plate ½ to 3/4 inch.

Were you able to easily turn the torque converter by hand before attaching the flex plate?

I could easily spin the converter around...

Could it be possible that my front pump is faulty?

Yes, a faulty front pump is my first thought.
The pump's impeller drive blocks get sheared-off when shocked or if the converter is not fully engaged and gets pushed back onto them, during an installation attempt.
Trouble is, not way to check without pulling the unit.
Have you dropped the trans pan... ??
Maybe the valve body is loose or there is a blockage in the filter.
Worth a look, prior to removing the unit.

I had the pan off, the filter is brand new no clogs, The valve body seemed tight to me.

Is there a good way to check the pump? In the manual it mentions using a straightedge and a feeler guage to measure clearance from the top of the pump drive and the housing. Would a too large of clearance cause all fluid pressure to drop?

I pulled the transmission anyways, I didn't have much time to fiddle with it today but if you spin the converter by hand you can feel it grab something and cause resistance then break free. It seems to grab randomly.

Should the flange on the rear of the transmission spin freely? Mine is locked up when you try to spin it either way. You can feel/hear it tap something inside when you try to move it either way.

Park is disengaged. Didn't really make much sense...what could cause the tranny to bind inside?
