i read somewhere that a small block 904 converter will work on a /6 904?

Yes they will fit, as long as you use a 65-67 V-8 converter on a 60-67 trans, or a 68 up converter on a 68 up trans. The stall speed may or may not be correct, by a couple of hundred rpm. Also a 360 converter would need the weights removed. One other thing a lockup or non lockup converter must be used with the correct lockup or non lockup trans.

really! cool! so the small blocks have the same deal with the torque converter hubs? and i need a 3K converter so i'll have to find out what the cnverters are rated at...

In a stock application the Slant and 318 get the exact same converter.

In the aftermarket, reduce the rated stall for a small block by around 400 RPM for a Slant application as a general rule.

running about 220hp and 250tq. 400 rpm difference still a good range?

I disagree with S/6 and 318 converters being exactly the same one.The 318 one behind a S/6 will stall 200-300 RPMs lower than the OEM S/6 one.I've put quite a few S/6 converters behind 318s for a "free" performance trick,including my daily driver.
