the rear end will be a direct swapp, however the driveshaft will have to be shorten'd and also have a conversion u-joint installed in the rear of it...

He'll have to measure up what he needs for the driveline he may need a conversion u-joint, his dart has a longer wheelbase than a Duster, so he might be able to get away with a /6 duster driveline and a u-joint change depending on how the length measures up...

Why would he need a "conversion" ujoint? The 7 1/4", 8 1/4", 8 3/4" and 9 1/4" axles all use the same "small" ujoint. The only reason he would need a "conversion" ujoint is if the 8 3/4" axle was from behind a 440 or a truck.

A body 340 4 spd cars up to '70 or '71 had the big 7290 joint. Or the 'chunk' may have been changed over the years. A conversion joint may be needed.

...I don't think anyone doubted that you own a 340, I think some people here just wondered why you'd take out that awesome /6 to put in a regular ole' V8... :o

To change from a 7.25 to an 8.75 you will need to shorten the driveshaft 1.75". (Been there, done that-twice)

I have 3 8.75 chunks laying around. 2 from 340 auto cars and 1 from a 4-speed 383 Roadrunner. The 2 340 ones have the small yoke and the RR one has a large yoke.
