Ok here is my problem. If trying to pull off from stop engine will die
if given a little too much throttle also at any steady carb. position
below 45 mph or when trans. shifts into 3rd it sputters and needs
a little more throttle but again if steady it sputters. Over 45 it
starts sneezing thru carb. New parts, timing chain, fuel pump,
dizzy, electronic conversion,cap,rotor,plugs,carb(rebuilt 1979 unit)
from parts house.Open exhaust.I have swapped dizzy wires and
they are on right Tc. was verified dizzy is in dead on. Tried 400
timing changes maybe less just changed fuel filter. Less than
200 miles since tc swap. Motor has100k about. Thinking carb

changed pcv hose and valve. Some big help on low end still
stumbles and stutters above 1800 doing timing changes now.

What year, model, and which carb?

If you go to the FAQ and snoop around you'll find links to carburetor manuals.

Hi shadetree, I have similar problems, but I think my fuel tank is full of sh.. that clogs the intake in the fuel pickup tube, and the strainer 'sock' is probably gone. Maybe you have the same problem?

Also, remember that today's fuel may have deteriorated your rubber fuel hose that is connecting fuel tank and fuel line, if they are old, so replace them with fuel injection hose, marked SAE 30R9, click on this link for the fuel line mod for more info if you need it.

One other tip that is less likely (I have done it myself once, so I know how stupid it sounds!!): double check your vacuum lines, and check that the dizzy gets ported vacuum, not manifold vacuum.

Click on this link if you need some part numbers for strainer and stuff.

Hope you solve the problem!

Olaf

Have you tried to adjust the valves?(free) Do you have power brakes?(vacuum leak in booster) Is 79 a lean burn carb year?
