I just need someone with a 170 to measure the dipstick and the tube for me. I think mine is too long.

This is a issue of having the correct dipstick for the tube, not the correct tube / dipstick for the 170 engine.

So...with that in mind, do you have the short (60-67), medium (68-76) or long dipstick tube?
Shoot us a measurement on the tube and we can measure the matching dipstick.

My 1961 valiant 170 has a medium length tube setup.

The top of the tube to the block measures 8 7/8"
the dipstick from the tip to the stop (where it rests on the tube) measures 17 5/8 "

The dipstick from the full line to the stop measures 15 5/8"

My 1966, and older 170 engines have.
Tube: top of tube to block 2 5/8 inches
Stick:Stop on stick, at top of tube, to full mark, 10 5/8 inches
Full mark to add mark; 9 /16 inch
Stop on stick to tip of stick 12 13/16 inch
