Most of the questions here around 2 bbl carbs (super six) seem to reference Carter BBD carbs,, were Holley 2bbls also used?

if either is available, is one preferred over the other,
and what years were they uses?

thanks

They both have their pros and cons, and fans and enemies. My dad had a Carter BBD he could never get to run right. I had a Carter BBD that would never get quite right. Some people say the same things about the Holley. Both will do all right, but I adapted a Holley 350 cfm 2 bbl and never missed the old BBD.

Like any carb, some will run fine and others wont. If you buy a remanufactured one or an old worn out one, then it wont run right. Too many people will buy a remanned Carter BBD and then claim all BBD's are trash because theirs didn't run right.

I've had a few Carter BBDs on both Super Sixes, and 318s. Other than having to get the bushings redone on the throttle shaft, I've not had any problems with them. I haven't run a Holley (yet) to be able to compare.
