Fantastic,You just made your car go a 10th quicker pulling 80lbs out.Latches door handles striker plates,cut big chunks out of door jambs of rear doors and tack weld rear doors shut.I know I could get anouther 80 lbs out of your car in a few hours.CAUTION this getting it lighter gets addicting.My door panels are glued on felt,aluminum ones weighed too much.Keep hacking and keep track.When I would get anouther 80 out I knew I just got anouther 10th,VERY gratifying for me.Its FREE HP.2355 lbs with me in it Mark

I got 83# of Excess Sheet metal, Sound deadner, Glass, and Extra door parts off of ruster over the weekend.

I will Be installing the Lexan side windows soon, A fiberglass hood and Trunk lid are ordered and should be on their way soon. I will loose about 10 more pounds once I get the lexan installed in the rear doors.. Then I will take out all the latches, catches, and hinges and Weld them shut.

I will be having a lexan up and down window via some old dog leash and a few snaps from the craft store - Some old Blue Jean material is used for the Door unlock rod.








Alternator is relocated with a much shorter 35" belt Hopefully they wont blow off anymore:-)









Passenger side alt is gone - - that alt and the bracket will be going on the EFI engine in my driver - it needs the amps.

First couple hundred are pretty easy,I am down to where I cant even get a pound a day out.Tops of your doors on the inside could have a row of holes in them.I cut most of the bottoms out of my doors and windows on the front and back of the doors.Holesaws and cut off blades are your friend.Mark

Oh yes they Are! I had a few hardware store runs for new holesaws recently

I got the Lexan installed on all 4 doors. Took out about 15 More pounds per side by removing rear door strikers, Hinges, Hinge Supports, (thick pieces inside B pillar and door) and By hole sawing alot of necessary Metal out of the doors.

The rear doors are welded shut after installing the Lexan and riveting some aluminum sheet to fill in the old door handle holes.

Also cut out all of the cowl vent bars and covered the opening with aluminum Sheet

Fiberlgass is here - (sung to the tune Chistmas Time is Here as in the Charile Brown shows)


Fiberglass came in 3 days ago - I met the Fedex driver in a local parking lot to load my 2 panels off of the trailer onto my pickup.


I have the Trunklid installed, all pinned down etc.

Hood has yet to be pinned down.

After removing extra unnecessary trunk hinges, springs, supports etc and hood hinges and the actual panels, here is a total weight savings comparison since November;


-84# Windows, Regulators misc. door parts, sound deadner, etc. removed.
-37# Hood hinges, Trunk parts, Rear Door hinges, etc.
-50# Hood
-50# Trunk Lid
+26# Fiberglass Trunk Lid
+22# Fiberglass Hood
Did not weigh Lexan Windows.

So far -173#

That alternator of yours looks like big lump of metal! If you don't need much of a charge, you could save some pounds by finding a mini-mini alternator and reduce the weight of the brackets with some holes.

Olaf, Yes I might consider a different alternator in the future but for now that's what I have to work with. Drilling out the brackets is Another priority too.

Pics of the Progress:

I made a light airdam out of some old discarded bumper covers from the body shop trash dumpster.. This stuff is waaay cheaper than aluminum sheet.. Anyway I made the Front 'Dam out of an old rear minivan cover - Lots of cutting with the jigsaw and stretching and riveting to make it all fit!

The goal is to get the front to sit 3~4 inches off the ground at rest when complete. Currently it sits 7".. I want to lower the torsion bars etc.. to compensate for the lighter car..


I removed one headlight, associated sheet metal and bucket... Covered the opening / bezel area with some more plastic from an old Chevy Tahoe / Avalanche rear bumper cover.

The other side will be completed soon. It will take a bit longer due to the smash there and the awkward shape.




























Did some cutting of nasty rusty areas and smoothed everything out a bit. Also more rustproofing removal.
