I really hope someone can help.I have an 87 p/u with a slant six, burned a valve so I replaced the head with a used one got it together and I have no compression in #1 2 or 4. If I take the rockerarm ass. off i have comp. in all six, repeat same prob.
Both heads have the same casting #'s
Tried switching the rockerarm ass. off original head
I tighten rockerarm ass. from middle to both ends
even at 5 ft lbs no comp.
no shims available

Did you leave enough time for the hydraulic valve lifters to bleed down?

Are all the valve stem heights even?
(Put a straight edge across the stem tips)

the engine has been together for almost 2 weeks so lifter position is not an issue
I just ran a straight edge across the top of the valves

Buy a set of rocker arm shaft shims...
File-down (grind) the outer edges of the shims to reduce the chance of cracking the cast iron support tower, (a wedge is a powerful tool  )

What should the clearance or difference be, shim all 7 connections? And if I shim all 7 wouldn't that reduce the amount of lift on the cylinders that do have compression?
Thanks again for your expert knowledge
