It's good to check the other things too, I had experienced a 'weird' miss in the ignition so checking the wires and gear was worth it anyway.

I'm going to be out for the count for another 24 hours as I wait for NAPA to come up with a set of Brass floats for the rebuild (wish they just made a 'Gold' kit with them included)...They had the nitrophyll ones in stock, but having seen the results of 'foam' floats in the mid-70's I refuse to put that in my car and have to replace them in another year....

more later...p.s. I just got my Hpak back, now I need to have the carb flange milled and get my rear dual plated and welded, then I can start on another can of worms....

Jeez, I'm really getting a bad vibe from any carter I've touched so far. I tore down 3 BBD's to make 2 runnable ones.

The one that died on me had:
worn out throttle shaft (could see daylight between the body and shaft 3/4 of the way around the shaft)
The 'purge' fitting under the bowl had fallen out and was gone.
The needles were badly tarnished black.
The jets looked like someone installed them with an impact screwdriver.
The floats had a slow leak in them (they went down like the Titanic in the solvent tank after 2 hours...)

I'm really suprised it even ran at all for the last few months...

So, now the duster is running, tomorrow I have to reset the timing and idle and see where it goes.
I had to steal the base/throttle plates from another carb, pull the needles out my third carb, use the jets from one of my 318 carbs...

I have enough to put together one more good spare carb....

Get it running, then swap over to the Hpak next week....

yeah, right....
