Anyone ever consider a small cap GM 6 HEI on our sixes. adapted of course. not enough room? They are cheap enough and trouble free as an alternative to the six EI dizzy. Just wondering...

I think he's talking about the whole GM 6 distributor, not just the HEI module......

no, I was talking about the whole thing. Cutting the bottom off and setting it on top of a gutted /6 base, shaft to shaft. Just a thought.

Excuse me a second. Image

Never mind that it won't even fit on the engine.

There is really no sensible reason for doing that, exept maybe doing what no man ever did before, just for the hell of it!

If you do such a swap, you also miss the opportunity to choose among different ignition modules and coils.

If you want the extra work, go for distributorless crank-triggered ignition with separate coils for each cylinder (or the common setup: 3 double coils). Available commercially for other makes, require some rebuilding. Keep us posted!

Olaf.

BTW, cool emoticon, Josh!

Hmm, board and login FAQ?

I think we talk past one another, pishta. In each section in the forum, there is a FAQ - short for Frequently Asked Questions - that contain links to posts where the most commonly encountered problems in the area covered by the section, are given solutions, or at least suggestions on how to solve them.

The FAQ in the 'electrical' section contain links to all the threads where you find ALL information needed to convert to HEI ignition.

You should also try out the search function, there are more than 180.000 posts in the forum, containing a staggering amount of info, much of it from people that have tinkered with this engine since it's debut, or shortly thereafter, some 50 years ago. I don't think any forum on the internet is better than this one, at least in that respect.

A search for 'HEI', gave 2150 forum links...

Olaf.
