I plan to gasket match the ports, clean up casting flaws, do some bowl blending and clean up, and maybe massage the guide boss a bit. What should I do as far as combustion chamber work? Relieve outside edge near valves? Smooth up over all?

What benefits would be seen from angle milling the head to achieve the desired compression as opposed to a flat cut?

i also went with .090 off head figger with using compsite gasket from shim ....should still be able to run reg gas

Be careful of "gasket Matching" the intake and exhaust ports. With the large port gasket I sell this could cause you to hit water. :oops: :shock: :roll: I have seen several folks do it.

Doc posted something about angle milling a while back. Do a search on that.

In the Articles section there is quite a bit in the head topic. Take a look through there again. Doc went into quite a bit of detail there.

Another good one to search up are Fopar's photos of his head work for the Ford valves. Bigger to be sure, but a lot of the principles apply.

The current engine I have under construction will use Ford Valves turned down to 1.70/1.44

The word is; Don't widen the ports. Wider tends to impair flow. Flash clean up only if you have to.

Sorry to Hi-jack this,

But the 1.7 and 1.44 valves they just fit right in? And the only work I will have to do is to have the area where the tappet goes machined for the new size?

I want new guides and hardened seats, would any other work have to be done for this? Assuming the head was in good condition.
