I finally got to put my car on the dyno today at TMS in Auburn.

117 hp and 196 lb torque

Peak hp is at 3800 rpm

This is a bone stock slant with a super six carter bbd, 2.25" exhaust and electronic HEI ignition. I was hoping for closer to 130 hp but the torque is pretty good. AFR ration was between 13.5 and 15.7, maybe a bit lean. Do these numbers seem about right?

My plan is to do a slight overbore, up the CR to 9.5, port and polish, and maybe bigger valves if the budget allows. I may also go for a Weber 2 barrel carb at some point, but one thing at a time. With all of this done, my hope is to be right around 150-175hp and 230 lb torque. It's important to keep things looking relatively stock in the engine bay since this 63' Valiant is all original with only 73,000 original miles. Any suggestions?

Pretty good numbers for a stocker. You want about 13:1 AFR for that type of setup (low comp, NA) and max power.

Spend money/time on bigger valves and port work, then compression. That will give biggest gains if induction/exh are up to the task.

I thought 14.7 was stoichmetric so would that be the goal for a NA motor?

Wow that is awesome, My car did 80hp/140torque with 1 barrel holley and the rest was same set up...didn't know I could pick up almost 40HP and 50 lb/ft of torque with a super six induction... Is your car automatic transmission?? mine is. Nice numbers, that car should zip along pretty good as is! nick

It is, if everything is perfect. Like emsvitil says there's a bit of room to play...at cruise you can be a little lean to enjoy gas mileage and the engine is typically at a regular load with a flat rate of speed (highway)...
Power you want to be slightly rich, one it helps anticipate a rapidly changing throttle position, and two slightly excess unburnt fuel absorbs the heat in the chamber and takes it out, thus reducing ping (like EGR would...but without reducing the volume of the combustion chamber with unburnable exhaust gases). You don't want to be too heavy on your "power" setting as "more" gas will wash more oil off the cylinder walls causing rapid wear to the rings and wall finish.

So can I increase jet size a bit, or tighten the little hex screw (the one it says never to mess with in the manual) that pulls the metering rods up? Actually I think I may have a slight intake leak at the throttle shaft bushing, so maybe that's making it leaner than it needs to be. One thing at a time.

Vallyant - I had my motor rebuilt to stock specifications with hardened valve seats about 5 years ago because I didn't know any better at the time, so it's a pretty fresh motor. The super six made a big impact, but only when I added the 2 1/4 exhaust.

You have to think in terms of lambda. There is so much variability in pump gas these days that you do not really know what you're getting. Blends of gasoline will have different stoichiometric values, hence, the stoichiometric air/fuel ratios will be different. However, lambda will always equal one at stoich. More to say on this, but no time right now...

Wow id love to have that at my wheels. Idk how much mine is putting out but with a tired 1bbl i cant imagine over the stock 95 rating. I cant wait to do the super six conversion and ignition.

That's cool! It's about what I ran. Within about +/- 4 %
I got 122 HP from my buddy's iTouch dyno app. I was running the roughly the same mods.
2.25 exhaust, HEI ignition, and 2bbl BBD.
I can't wait to see what it pulls once the tuning is done for the turbo and clutch thing is sorted. :D
