Finally got around to converting from a 1bbl Holley 1920, to a SuperSix with Holley 2280 on my '72 Dart. Just have to wait for the electric choke to show up and we'll be golden. It starts, idles and revs fine.

I did hit one little snag though. Thought I had everything needed for a quick and easy kickdown installation, and even found the little spring on the garage floor that goes on the kickdown rod, against the tranny lever... I must have lost the bar that goes from kickdown rod to carb.

The blue one with the curved long slot in the middle :(

anybody have one of these? or should I just eat the cost of a cable kickdown?

There are low-priced cables too, I just got the one I bought from streetrodworld on eBay, $24.95. Not of the highest quality, but it looks like it's gonna work just fine. It will also serve as a model for future prime quality home-made versions.

Olaf.

Get a flat piece of metal and drill two appropriately sized holes in it the correct distance apart.

I don't recommend two holes. That slot is there for a reason. It actually has nothing to do with shifting or shift quality, it is a safety measure. If for some reason the linkage got stuck in the wide open throttle position, the slot allows the carb to return to closed throttle. If you just had two holes, the KD linkage would hold the carb at wide open throttle. Try it sometime with the engine off.

Interesting. A few years ago I ran a piece with just two holes in it on a Super Six conversion I did for several months and had no problems. But Charlie is right- drill a slot and a hole. Or, just get a cable kickdown.

Find you a old Chevy altenator ajuster bracket. You should be able to redrill the hole at the point needed and cut the rest off, of course the slot is already there for the other end.

Heck maybe even the Auto stores have them instock, chrome maybe.

i made one this morning using a shelf bracket, dremel and a grinder. It's pretty shoddy, but should do the job.

One last thing... the connection at the transmission is completely different than the supersix one. How can I address that issue? :?

Nice job! Could you post a picture of the transmission connection you are talking about?

Lol, nevermind, I just figured it out and was looking at the wrong connection point :D. What's the best way to set the kickdown up?

won't the angles be off since it's a different pivot point than the supersix one?

You lost me. Did you do something odd down at the kickdown arm on the transmission?

no, I just thought the tranny pivot arms were different on the supersix vs. the 1 bbl setup.

I'll see how it works tomorrow morning :)

Well, the old kickdown has a different type of connection. it's clipped into a little ball socket thing. Took some pics, but hard to see... The only way I could see this hooking to a supersix kickdown is to cut the original linkage and then connect the supersix bar to the 2 inches of original bar. I guess it would allow for adjustment. Not particularly fond of ruining the original kickdown bar though...

Can I drive the car 2 miles to put it back in storage with no kickdown connected? It's going to rain tomorrow and I don't want to lay on the wet ground. :?
