Having been messing with headlights on the Dart during the last few days, a previous problem resurfaced that I had forgotten, or ignored, because it appeared to be solved. The top beam adjusting screw at times will tend to slide up and out of its slot in the stamped steel headlight bucket causing light beam to hit road directly in front of bumper.

Sometimes the adjustment will stay as intended for a long time, other times it has just randomly popped out because the screw seams to have lost its ability to retain a perpendicular position.

Before I go and dissect the nylon bushing that the adjusting screw resides in, and brake this 40+ year old part, dose anyone out there have any tips on how to get that screw to stay put, or should I just order a new set of headlight adjustment hardware such as this?

Bill

They won't stay fixed. Replace with new and get on with life.

Dan, I figured this much.

But, it would be nice to purchase parts that I want to get, not have the car dictate all the time what it wants…

What a selfish heap of high maintenance, ungrateful, iron. After all the new stuff I have bolted on to her in the last three years one would think she would cut me some slack. Jezzzemrice; stinking headlight aiming hardware of all things.

What the Dart wants’ she gets…

Bill

That's the nature of cars. They are mobile moneypits (except when they're stationary moneypits).

Dan, nothing new there, I probably have been owning and driving them for a few years longer than you… I have managed to stay away from boats, motorcycles, four wheelers, snow machines, camps, multiple wives, bars, & sports gambling for the last forty years… Houses & old cars are my downfall.

Perhaps I have moneypittatoases at the moment having built a new place, and recently resurrected an old car. Think nothing of this incessant whining today, it shall pass.
