OR, import some stock ARG heads, weld the chambers up like they did, and have Mike J port and flow them. Welding and porting would be in the neighborhood of $2500 anyway. :shock:

I guess what I'm asking is; no one has some clean sheet design just laying around in their heads or on some back shelf somewhere? I mean what would you change? It's already a compromised design with all twelve ports on one side, but in all seriousness, all anyone is really looking for is a modern quench style chamber and some room to port without hitting water, right? I've been watching this forum for sometime now, most of you guys are pretty ingenious, this just doesn't seem like too big of a hurdle to me. It's kind of like forming a business plan. Do all the hard work first, then find a supplier. You guys are sitting in front of a computer already. Surely there's some sand cast guys that aren't high volume producers. Has no one done the legwork on this yet?

There's been so much legwork done it's unbelievable. This topic gets thrashed around about 6 times a year and it always comes down to the exact same thing. Everyone yaps about wanting a better head, but too few are willing enough to put their money where their mouth is to ever get the project off the ground. :shock:

Zilla's got it. Lots of legwork done, but Slant Sixers are mostly just too stinkin' cheap.

Sometime in the future I might be able to bankroll such a project myself, but I would not expect to make my money back... I may be surprised, though.

Well I'm going a LOT ahead of myself with this, but ...

I'm in the process of traking an Aluminum ACTC Race Head that was produced around 2003-2004 using the Cast Iron ACTC Slant Six head experience. Only two were produced, but the guy who has this head is the same guy who has all the molds to cast them. This head is cast with thicker walls overall, heart-shaped combustion chambers and needs a LOT of machine work if you got a head "as cast". Also the gasket surface has a milling surface of almost an inch!!! thus allowing to use pistons with BIG domes.

All this is what I HEARD from my engine builder. He was part of a commission of 4 guys who each developed an Aluminum Race Head for the ACTC in 2004, Adrian was in charge of the Ford head, another one for the Chevy Head and this other guy for the Slant Six head as long as the 4.0L Cherokee head.

The Slant Six head didn't move forward since 2005 was its last year in tha ACTC Races. Also, all the other 3 prototypes didn't move on with the ACTC because of bad bureaucracy within ACTC...

Up to now this is a TALE, but only for the Slant head, because I had in my hand the Ford Aluminum Head ... Now Adrian has to put me in contact with the Mopar guy .... lets see what happens ....

Price? don't ask .... I don't know .... but I'm sure that I'll have to sell my soul to get that Aluminum Head!!!!

Ah. Well I wasn't aware of that. Yeah, it seems I've managed to hi-jack this post. I've grown up around an aluminum foundry all my life, even worked in it a few years, plus my father has been a sand core operator/manager at the same place for 30+ years, so I never understood what the apprehension with tackling such a project was all about. I figured somebody most have the original prints somewhere, or in the case of the argentine head (and now it seems especially so) some reproductions, that would be an excellent jumping off point. For such a limited/low production run composite moulds would be astonishingly simple to produce if most of the legwork was done, i.e. solid modeling, then it's just the task of building a box and actually pouring some. I can't speculate on machining, but it can't be more involved than the typical reconditioning (decking, cutting seats/spring pockets, bolt hole, etc.). It'd be well worth the time to investigate Polara's rumors, as far as the moulds go anyway. And as far as having such a thick gasket surface and general thickness unmachined, I'd imagine that was there to avoid shrinkage and porosity or to insure that if it did happen, that it did so in a spot that would be removed. But of course, that's just speculation as well. Sorry again for commandeering this thread.

Yes, the Ford Aluminum head is based on the Argentinea Ford Sprint Head, but with heart shaped CC and all the goodies. i can get you some pictures if you want of this head. Adrian, my engine builder, was the one who produced this head from the scratch.

And about Tahuilco foundry still casting ACTC heads, they are not doing so, and not willing. Already talked to them.
