Folks,

The 12th annual Mopar Thunder weekend at Bristol Dragway is almost here!

Remember, this is Labor Day weekend! You're not supposed to work, you're supposed to PLAY!

Slant 6 Race on Saturday and Sunday, entry fee $40 each day.

Track payout will be based on number of entries: First place receives 75%, and runner-up receives 25% of total amount of entry fees. Also, the track provides trophies for first and second place.

Weekend schedule:

Friday- Gates open 10am, Test & Tune noon-5pm, Mopar vs. World race 6pm.

Saturday- Gates open 8am, Time Trials 10am, Slant 6 qualifying 11am, Slant eliminations start 1:30pm. There is also what the track is calling a Bonus Race that starts at 2pm. (I think it is open to all classes).

Sunday- Gates open 8am, Time Trial 10am, Eliminations start 11:30am. Classes include Slant 6, Sportsman, Pro, Super Pro.

Track does allow camping overnight, and the track has pretty decent restroom and shower facilities!

Any questions, please PM or email me!

Brian

Flyin' Brian,

I am looking forward to this epic event. I'll be there with at least one car.

Thanks for organizing, and for the reminder!!

Got my new engine parts back from the machine shop, yesterday. Dropped the block, rods and pistons off on Wednesday, and got them back on Friday. Shop owner put some chevy's aside to do my work, so I can try and make the meet. So trying to put a new bullitt into the 66 Barracuda, and make this race. I have been sick the last few days, so have a lot to catch up on. If I get-r-done, it will be a .060 over 12.5-1 225 engine. Haven't decided on a cam, yet. Have three different ones on the shelf over .500 lift.

Looks like Bristol is out for me. I have been sick for more then a week. I am behind on customers jobs, and have not been able to work on the new engine. Maybe Clay City.

Hope you start feeling better soon! Sorry to hear about the illness, but I totally understand the choice you had to make about coming to the race. I am still amazed at how far you have traveled in the past to attend races. I'll root for you if you are able to make the Clay City race!

I may possibly make the race depending on how Sara is doing. She is in rehab in Bristol so I will be in town anyway.

We hope to see you all there.

Mark, please give our very best to Sara for an accelerated recovery. Chris and I have been thinking about your family in this tough time.

Best wishes,

Lou

We need racers at this event! At least 9 cars will give Gary Bruner the chance to take over #1 points nationally...

Coming for sure:

Brian Mimken
Gary Bruner
Ron Hamby

Maybes:

Meril Bruner
Larry Chesney
Courtney Bruner
Rodney Hargis
Mark Charapich
Ron Parker
???

I am making mods to the 68 Dart so I can hopefully re-set the D/U record. I'll be there Sat at 9:30 AM at the latest, and may run t'n't locally (Radford - motormiledragway.com) on Fri night.

TWO DAY RACE, so lot's of chances to win points!!

Great track, Mopar car show and swap, hangin' with the Slanted Family - what more could you ask for?

See ya there,

Lou

Yeah! What Lou said! :D

C'mon you East Coast Racers! We need to get these car counts up.

Did you know that the Killer Bees out on the West Coast have made up 60% of our racers so far this year!? 38 of the 63 people racing so far this year are from West of the Mississippi. We've only had 25 people racing so far. We need a good "Baker's Dozen" to even things back up!

What's stopping you? (Nope! Not an excuse. Just DO it! )

You know you want to race.

I'll be there but wont be racing. Maybe next year I can race this year I will be lucky if I can even drive my dart up there.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was a nice race with 10 cars and some notable spectators attending. Brian and Anna Mimken made it over from Butner, NC to watch and cheer and hang out.

Punchline is that Meril Bruner won the race, which I think puts him in the points lead in the East. Congrats to Mark Charapich for runner up honors in his Hyperpac 170 Valiant street machine!

Closest round was I believe between Rodney Hargis and I. Same 0.04 lights, double breakout, me by 0.023 (15.847 on a 15.87) and him by 0.019 (13.231 on a 13.25). He actually let up at the end to let me cross the line first because he thought he was going to break out!!! I think I could see that I was about 1-2 ft ahead of him at the end, and obviously so could he.

We discussed doing a 2-day race next year, and/or running eliminations on Saturday only. The Bristol track is fine with either way!

Fun stuff!

Lou

So it looks like you already have a 4 round race !!

Richard

Fopar,

according to the current rules Sunday's race would count as a 40 point race for the winner. Saturday's race would not, since it didn't exist last year.

Still holding out hope for a decent car count!! :)
