Always the simple no bull@#$% solution with you, Rick! This is a NASA-inspired racing rocket sled! No simple stock stuff allowed...

Yeah' but I can't lip off to much. I have been working on mine for the last 2 1/2 years.

If you have a crank pulley on why can't you just mount the Alternator on a factory bracket in the factory location and run factory belt? No electric water pump, no brackets to fab up. Voila! Ready to race.

Rick
The SFI dampner did not have a pulley, so I bolted one to it. The only issue is getting the belt in alignment.

The stock alternator bracket doesn't allow any variance in how far forward or rearward the alternator is mounted, so I've got to figure that out.

I could mix and match some of my various water pump pulleys and spacers to get the factory water pump belt in alignment, but that's giving up needed horsepower! And I don't want to give up on this $100 Mr. Gasket kit I've got bolted up now.

I finished up a little more wiring last night and re-looked at the belt situation.

I'll do some searching for a shorter water pump belt. The way I've got it mounted now the belt is too long. It needs to be between 18 and 19 inches.

The alternator is so far from the crank that maybe I can get away with that belt being a little out of alignment. It's about 1/2" - 3/4" off, so I'm gonna get a 52" belt and see how bad it is. It may get me through Clay City...

You'll flip the belt. Might take custom alt bracket. I've got a big, brand new grp 27 battery I could sell you...

Okay, but how are you gonna fit all 8 tires/wheels AND a big battery in your Dart?

I honestly don't anticipate making many (if any) passes with this thing.

There are just too many variables and things I'm sure I'm overlooking to think that I'll actually be able to get it running, tuned and have enough of the initial start-up bugs worked out to make any passes at Clay City.

Gary said I would void the warranty on this new motor if I tried to start it without him there.

Maybe I should swap in the GodsRods Duster I engine real quick afterall...

They would all fit in the Dart, but I'm bringing Slantkota, so it'll be even easier.

How about putting on a stock damper for now?

Rick, that would be WAYYY too easy...

Or, how about a Romac "bolt-on" SFI damper? Saw them on Ebay for $220 a little while ago from one of those FL importers.

So,... Do I remove the :?: by Whitney's name!? :D

That's one more racer for Clay City! :D :D

That would void the "Gary Bruner Warranty"!

I'm heading over to the garage now to see what other trouble I can get myself into... Would love to have you two here with me to help figure these things out!

Yeah, would be great to work together...

My travel will be absolutely crazy (Europe, VA coast...) leading up to CC, so I may decide to chuck the Valiant towing. Leave the ?? by Whitney's name for now. I'll be there is all I can say right now.

Where in Europe? Angie's jealous! We're gonna try to get stationed there once more before I retire and have to get a real job.

I figured out both belt issues today! :D

I ordered a shorter belt for the water pump.

For the alternator I cut two pieces of aluminum bar stock, drilled holes in them and bolted them to the factory mount. That brought the alternator forward enough to line it right up!

Nice work!

Delft, Netherlands, and Mulhouse, France (Alsace)... Work trip, but might get to see a few sights too.

While in Delft, try to see the "Alt Kirche" and the "Neue Kirche". For the "Alt Kirche" it is definitely worth going up the 300+ steps to the top (as long as you're not afraid of heights  ). You can see for over 25 KM of the surrounding countryside. Beautiful! And a very easy Day Trip. :D

You'll be glad you went. :D

Angie does not like heights. She went up and snapped a few pictures, but then headed down again pretty quickly.

If you go on a breezy day like we did it's even more exciting. The tower sways in the breeze!

Mike (12) and I went to the garage yesterday and cleaned it up. We also got the Duster back down on it's feet again. I took the pressure washer to the underside and blew it all out with compressed air.

We put up a tire swing too.

Just a few (ton) more little things to take car of to be ready for Clay City. :D
