Nobody responded to the query about the idle advance table, so I will just go ahead and mention it it in another thread here.

If you enable the idle advance table, the idle is controlled by the timing in this table until the conditions set in the enabling tab. Then it jumps up and follows the main timing map. This allows you to set the timing in the advance table low, say around 8-10 for idle control, and emissions, if you care about that. But as soon as you hit the throttle and move the TPS for instance, outside the range of control of the idle advance table, it will follow the main map, and you can put 20-25 degrees in there. This gives you an off idle "tip-in" that is crisp and smooth. This is a cool feature. If you do not have it enabled, you may want to do so.

Sorry to bore you if you knew this already.

On a related topic, since I have my engine static timed at 12 degrees, once I go below 12 with the idle cells, it will not follow. It is stuck with 12 as the lowest. To change this, I could re-set the base timing, and enter the number I timed it at in the base timing screen. I do not remember right off where that is, but could track it down.

I hope you are not getting tired of my writing about this. Keep in mind, I started with 0 knowledge. And still know very little. I just share what I learn. Or think I learn.

Very cool. Will need to check this out once I swap a car over to MSIII - this winter?

Nifty... I just set the first few columns of the main map at 600 then 800 or thereabouts... this idea will let you remove those columns and start the main table at say 1000. The more columns the more precision if you wanted that fine a tuning.

Pierre, That is an interesting thought. If you try what you are suggesting, let us know how it works out.

Pierre, I awoke thinking about your idea of simply eliminating the lower RPM columns in the map. I have wondered if the 400 column is needed. I notice George's tables do not include that column. Maybe it is to set the timing during crank mode.

However, if you eliminate the valued for the idle RPM and rely solely on the idle advance table to control timing at idle, then you lose the benefit of the bump up when you crack the throttle and the timing advances to say 20-25 at idle as you are tipping in the throttle. This is kind of like a pump shot in a carb. The idea is to advance the timing while you are still at idle, but coming off idle as indicated by a changing TPS position. It makesk for a smoother, crisper off idle response. These values at which idle is under the control of the advance table are are set by you in the screen that enables the idle advance screen to be active. I simply used the default values, and they seem to work fine.

Running straight MS-II, I don't have this feature. Maybe I will load the Extra firmware later on... when the turbo comes.
