I finally found a couple of NOS axle bearings for my '64 Valiant, but one did not have the collar included. Is there any way the old collar can be salvaged?

Service manual states to score it for removal. Of course this was written when you could still buy them new! Now to your situation, yes they can be removed intact you need a 4 fingered puller with sufficient reach and a square of plate steel to place over the tube opening, hit it generously with penetrating oil (I prefer gun oil) as needed, do not let the collar go dry. Slowly apply pressure making sure you are not cocking the collar, stop and check your work frequently. This is easier with 4 hands as the second person can tap the collar as you pull. You do not want to score the bearing surface or mutliate the collar. Take it slow, check for a straight pull frequently and it will pop off so set some time aside and a good dose of cussing don't hurt either!....Dave

Thanks for the good info, but the problem has been resolved and I won't have to salvage the old collar. I called Brad's NOS Parts to inform them of the shortage and after an apology, they sent me another collar by 2nd day air. It's nice to find some companies that still believe in customer satisfaction.

When I'm treated right by a business, I like to give them a good word on a public forum. When I get treated badly, I also like to let others know.
