I am always looking for a better and cheaper place to store and work on cars. I found a listing on Craigslist the other day for an 810 square foot space that would be about the right size but it was a condominium for sale and not a rental. When I have looked into these things before the total cost always came out more than a comparable rental but this one would appear to be considerably cheaper than what I am paying now for two places totaling about 650'. I know interest rates are low and real estate values have come down but this seems a little too good to be true.

Have any of you or your acquaintences had any experience with these type of deals? I know I have to pay real estate taxes and a owners association fee but I am a little weary of what other costs there might be. I live in a townhouse with an owners association and it is definately not the most effecient way to get anything done. Any thoughts or horror stories would be appreciated.

Seymour, your best bet would be to sit don and talk with them. Condos have their own set of trick bags as far as maintenance fees, and there may be limits as to what it can be used for.

Ex wifes cousin lived in a condo. It was a nightmare, and she'd been there since the place was built.

In Oregon Rentals like Condos and apartments with garages usually have a clause that says "NO Auto maintenance", it's strictly for housing your driving car or storing your stuff...

Up here in Washington to. I don't have a garage and have thought about using large storage for the purpose of auto work. I'd probably get a visit by the cops if i'm grinding away at 12:29 at night in one of those storage units.

Just move down to Blacksburg, Seymour! Cheap houses with good garages, and you can expand to a larger size and the neighbors don't care. Mine is now 20X51'... Fun wrenchin' pals in town too...

If I had it to do over I would like to have a place of my own with a big garage but that would be a difficult change to make at this point in my life. I went over to look at the space this morning, its a lot like the 20X40 unit used to have but gave up. It has heat, lights, and 60 amp service. The kind of things I want to do are permitted and it is big enough to park 4 vehicles which is what I need. Its about 20 miles from home which is a problem but it is right by a restaurant where I have breakfast every Wednesday morning. It is part of a 172 unit complex and I was impressed by the developer/manager. Not too affraid of uinforseen costs but I would be at risk when interest rates go back up. I would have to pay for it with the home equity line that I have on the house that I own jointly with Marty so I have to clear it with her. If she is agreeable I thnk I might do it.

Sandy, what is the difference between tri-polar and cornholio?
