Holy crap!! I just ran the mileage vs. fuel usage on my Valiant coming back home to Tracy CA from Marysville CA.

Driving at 3000 RPM a distance of 110 miles it used a total of 3.89 gallons of gas.

My 1967 Plymouth Valiant just got 28.2 MPG!!! HOLY CRAP!! Not bad for a 44 year old car WITHOUT an overdrive!!

The only reason I checked was I wanted to see if flipping the air cleaner lid would net any difference in MPG. Last time I check I got 23 MPG coming back from Sacramento @ 3300 RPM.

Wow..... I'm pretty blown away!

So am I. Keep a log over the next few tankfuls to get a larger data sample.

Would you mind posting the specs of your car: engine size, transmission, rear end gears, timing, carb type and size, etc? Thanks.

When making my own measurements, I do not believe any mileage numbers until I have more than 500 miles on them (more than 1 fillup).

Small variations in how the tank fills can make big variations in apparent MPG.

Yeah, I was going to say--be careful of single tank "averages". You might find the next tank gets 8.

Otherwise, cool beans!

It did seem to be doing really well coming back, but you are totally correct, I will need to get more data. I'll post an update next time I can check it.

All my record mileage events occur East of Lake Louise Alberta. You need a stiff tailwind, consistent, significant elevation drop and no traffic.

Stiff tailwind is a relative term.

I like when everything gets quiet at 65mph...and you cant lift your foot high enough off the gas.......set the cruise for the same speed as the prevailing hurricane.....and just float. Next fuel stop Brandon!

In the Valaint with its 5 speed and manual disc brakes and steering you could just turn off the ignition on long grades ....you can go 22 miles on the Salmo-Creston if you switch off at the top.

Wow! Thats some really good mileage, even if you are off a point or two. My best observed 5 tank average is 13.1 from Orlando to Tampa and back. Hopefully a rebuilt motor will do me a little better, if i could pull 19-20 i'd be happy
