i have a 7 1/4 rear end (i'm guessing, it's a slant 4 door 70 valiant.) i've had the new tires on for about 3 months now. the other day i noticed that the right (passenger) rear tire is losing more tread than the other 3 tires. it is an even wear.

why?

Is it the same size?

(don't laugh, I've seen this when the tire shop replaced an L84 tire with an L78 tire)

It's due to the leaning tower of power!

No, seriously. Under acceleration, rear wheel drive tends to torque right rear tire harder--the same force that tends to lift the front left is what plants the right rear hard--or break it loose. Ever notice how an open diff car usually smokes the right rear tire?

[A front wheel drive car is similar in that it will wear the front left tire more.]

However, if these are three month old tires then I have to wonder what the tread rating is, or if it's a soft compound winter tire.

At three months old, I would head back to the tire dealer and get it checked or replaced (on their dime).

the tire was a different size

the right rear was a 235 75 14 and the left was a 225 75 14. it also had a bulb on the inside tread, and... and.. the cords were showing!

i neglected to check the tire sizes because the place i went for the tires is recommended by my dad. yesterday we pulled the tires off and my dad didn't look so happy. He loaded the tires onto his truck and went over to the tire shop. He came back with two new tires and one spare.

sometime i get lazy and figure the guy working on the car will do it right, and i don't check on it when they are done.

Sounds like my dad was, the kind of man that makes it happen.
