I was always very unhappy with the single side mirror on the Dart. It was small, round, and recently would not stay aligned at all. I had been looking for ages for a mirror that would mount in essentially the same place, and the same way, without blocking the opening of the vent window.

So, on the way home on the highway the other night, feeling pretty much blind to what cars were around me, I vowed to replace the crummy old side mirror and add one to to the passenger's side. I remembered seeing a decent selection at Advance auto recently, so drove over there today and found a matching pair that work great. They are similar in concept to the original mirrors, except they are square, which looks fine on the Dart.

The mirrors are sold by a company called FIT system Replacement Mirrors. They are meant to replace the stock mirrors on an 89-93 Ford Ranger pick up. They are black metal, which looks nice and feels plenty strong as well.

I had to file the mounting surface to fit the concave upper surface of the Dart door, but that was made easier with the aid of a 1" wide belt sander, finished up with a file. There is enough material in the casting to enable a good fit to be made. A nice gasket and screws are included.

The model numbers are 61001F and 61002F. One is for the right, and the other is for the left. It is really nice to be able to see both lanes back behind me. If you are feeling blind on the highway in your older A body Mopar, check these out.

Sam

There are two problems, my digital camera died, and I really must get it fixed, or get a new one. A new one is most likely. The other problem is I don't have a simple web site to host my photos. I need to take care of that. My brother and my younger daughter (age 32) are both experts in that field, so it is just a matter of getting together with one of them and setting it up.

I will do this soon, and get an avatar photo up. Is that what it is called?

Sam,

I'd still be interested in seeing a picture of these mirrors. I need to get some for my Valiant, and the originals at $150 each ain't happening! Want something that still allows the vent glass to open normally.

That's it Rick. But, I will take a photo for you soon. I am getting better at posting photos. I should do it again soon before my old brain loses the technique. My old camera died, and I forgot about the promise after I got a new one.

Thanks, Sam! I've been meaning to do this on my cars for a while, and will NEED to do it for Christine's new '64 Valiant ride...
