hello friends!

so i think/know that either my engine or transmission mounts have headed the way of the dodo. when i click into drive or reverse (64 dodge dart gt automatic) my car lunges forward. so my question is, can i change the motor and transmission mounts myself? i have tools but not an engine puller. not sure if i need one but seems like i might to get the engine stress off the mounts. and if not, what should it cost roughly at a shop? just so i dont get taken for a ride.

thank you!

what is the idle speed, sounds like it is too high.

If you've got some helpers, a floor jack, and several pieces of wood, you should be good. one board to protect the oil pan, and several pieces to act as "Cribbing" so the engine doesn't drop down while your working on it. Pull one side at a time. Go gentle. Disconnect the head pipe. Replace the exhaust donut gasket when your done.

The tranny mount will require that you drop the tranny cross member, so support the tailshaft. Same sort of drill, just not as likely to give you grief if the jack drops down.

Think it through, use jack stands and cribbing to keep safe.

Have a couple friends around to hand you stuff, and to help in case you get in a bind.

Did I mention to disconnect the battery? Do that too.

If you change the motor mounts it is easier to replace the passenger side first. might be simpler to do if you jack on one side of the engine at a time.
