Hey Folks,

Does anyone have a reliable weight on an A-body 8 1/4" axle with brakes and all? I'm not sure I trust a "factory spec" weight. Or, does anyone have on laying around they could weigh? I am contemplating axle options for a new project...

I am also interested in the Ford 8" weight, if anyone knows that number.

Thanks very much,

Lou

My 8 1/4 with 10" x 1/2" brakes installed 2.45 open = 204 lbs.

Thanks Johnny. Does that include the big finned drums or are they simple smoothies? I remember you weighed a stock 8.75" and that must have had the 10X1 3/4" smooth drums, right?

Cheers,

Lou

I just shipped a 1974 7 1/4" with 10" drums (that was a nice 7 1/4"...better than any I ever owned...).

I have an 8 1/4" loose, but I'd have to 'dig' for it to pull it out and weigh it...LOL

the 8 1/4 had the 2 1/2 smoothie complete and assembled. the 8 3/4 had the 2 1/2 smoothies and all the parts just for the weight not assembled.

Thanks Johnny and DI. Sounds like the ol' 8.75" is only a 10-15 lb penalty over the 8.25". Not worth me hunting up 8.25" to replace my 8.75" axles with in my Darts...

Cheers,

Lou
