Boy, the search function on here works very well. Found lots of info regarding things I'd wondered about the last several weeks after tearing down these 6's I have.

I had found 2 good forged cranks & 1 repairable and one cast. I miked up one of the forged & ordered standard bearings about 2 weeks ago. This morning I went ahead & resized & assembled the rod caps, checked with bore mike & looks like I will be .0015 which I'm comfortable with. I then put #1 main in, miked it & also .0015, clearance. When I went to unbolt the cap I noticed (should have seen it in the first place!) the bearings don't line up from block to cap. Little difficult to mike but it's about .095 off. I grabbed an old & bearing, installed it in the cap & it lined up perfect. Then I looked at the bearings & sure enough, the locating tang is in a different location, about .095 different! Other than that, the bearings are identical width, radius, length, oil hole, etc.

Did I get the wrong bearings here or ??? I understood the cast crank mains were narrower but these bearings are exactly the same width, (1.032, I think) as the ones I took out, just located differently. I checked the thrust bearing on block & cap & it locates perfectly.

Thank you very much in advance for any assistance on this.

What brand of bearings did you buy? I'd be taking them back and showing them an original bearing to illustrate the problem.

Sealed Power, I believe the part # was 4092. Yes, I'll visit with them Monday about that. I was just curious if any one else had run in to this. Thank you.

Oog. I hate seeing stuff like this. I wonder if this is going to turn into yet another Federal-Mogul-Crappification-Of-Formerly-Good-Parts-Lines story for my collection. :-(

So, I'm the first & only, huh?

Well, I'll get to the parts house this week & report back on what I find.

It's probably a fluke & I'm sure they'll get me the right ones. Wish I hadn't set them all in the block to use my dial indicator on the crank, though before I discovered it. Felt dumb & I doubt they'll take 'em back.

Have a great week!

Top or bottom bearing section? (Groove or no groove)
Are there any marking on the back of the shell, like it's P/N?
Could be a "mis-boxed" part or??

I have found a few mis-boxed items over the years... always a PITA...
Usually stops the project "dead", for a week or two, as I wait for the correct replacement items.

Boxed incorrectly (lowers only). Strange but, I have the right ones, now. Now I can put that puppy together next weekend.
