I thought I was posting this in this thread, but it was in the "What did you get done..." thread. So... Ditto!

I snuck in almost 2 whole hours of "fiddle time" last night on the way home from work! :D It was even "approved". Angie didn't work and it was the last day of decent weather for awhile, swim meet this weekend,... So,...

I got the lower part of the shifter cable and tranny cooler lines away from the header. Still need to figure a way to get the upper portion of the cable away from the header where it attaches to the head.

I also cut all the pieces of metal to cover the holes in the firewall. I'll attach them the next time I'm over there.

I got out one of the "old school" corner scales for a couple pictures. Not sure how accurate they will be, but they're something to play with.

Oh yeah. Forgot. I also installed the all important engine to frame ground wire.

I'll be bringing Ron Hamby's loaner cable to the banquet.

Rob, if you can get that bracket off that supports the bellhousing, you can make a notch in it with a hacksaw and use it to route the cable between it and the block. That keeps it off the lower headers and gives a more favorable arc at the top. It also gets it nicely behind the starter.

Mine is notched about an inch wide, halfway down the bracket, and about an inch behind the front bolt in the bracket.

Lay your cable out across the bracket and you'll see where to cut. :D

I don't remember exactly what day it was, but sometime since my last post I made it back over there and screwed in all of the metal to cover the holes in the firewall and pulled out the two side windows to give it one last try at polishing them back to usable condition (before I finally break down and either buy those doors from Howard or make some new windows).

Dennis' post also gave me an idea. I have this piece of metal from a grinder or generator or something that looks like just the thing I need to bolt over the shifter cable at the bellhousing support bracket that will push the cable away from the header. Thanks again Dennis! :D

(Now, just to find the time to get back over there and see if it will actually work... )

I stopped off and unloaded the doors, fiberglass hood and a few other things at the garage this morning.

The doors weigh exactly what Howard said: 48 pounds.

They're awful purdy and that lexan sure is clear,... But they weigh more than the current doors I'm sure... Maybe I'll run 'em just until I re-do the other doors and THEN sell 'em...

I thought about cutting down the cowl induction hood to fit the Challenger, but I'm not at all confident that I'll get it to turn out right. I'll hold off for awhile and look for a better option. Hopefully someone else can use it.

I cut this piece of metal to serve as a heat shield for the shifter cable along with routing the cable under the bellhousing support bracket. I will probably still wrap the cable with something as well. Especailly the lower portion where it comes closest to the header.

This is as far as I got with trying to put the new doors on. Howard said this one was set up as a lift off, so I replaced the hinges and tried every which way I could to get this thing on there with no luck. All I managed to do was chip most of the paint off the leading edge of the door and get so frustrated I couldn't see straight. :x

These doors are 10 pounds heavier than the doors that were on it, so adding 20 pounds. :(

I pretty much just wasted about 5 1/2 hours last night...

Today's a new day! :D

Milk crates and blocks of wood, or floor jacks are your friends...

I was "supposed" to be able to simply drop the top hinge pin in and then drop a pin in the bottom...

I think the problem is that the steel fenders have less clearance to the door than Howard's fiberglass fenders. So I just didn't have enough room to drop it in place.

I'll install them like a standard door (using the floor jack, milk crates... ) whenever I can get back over there.

I was just so frustrated that I had used up that much of my limited "car time" to accomplish so little...

It'll be better the next time. :D

I got the Duster fired up today! :D

I video taped it with my phone, but ran out of memory after about three seconds (the previous videos Mike took of it running with the other engine are still in there... )

Anywho,... It runs and sounds good. :D

The only casualty was the Moroso electric water pump that quit working. I thought about installing a relay, but then just took it off and put a regular pulley on the water pump instead.

You'd better kick it high gear Cookie! I'm waitin' on you!

OK, I guess this means we'll see you at Mason-Dixon or Elk Creek running down the track. Will Cookie be able to bring a car to run at one of those???

I can't speak for Cookie. (He did mention that he was setting his sights on Clay City for this year).

I plan to take the Duster out to Ohio Valley for some shake down runs in the near future. Tracks here open this weekend, but we have a swim meet.

A lot will depend on whether or not I'll have a car trailer in time for Mason Dixon. I may try to use the dolly to get to Ohio Valley since it's so close and a straight shot up 31W, but anything farther than that probably wouldn't work out.

Wayne,

If you do get either Piggie or the Demon ready to race soon and want to meet at a track close to you, I'm willing to rent a trailer to make our "Ultimate Slant 6 Grudge Match" a reality.
