I'd like to know y'alls opinion for a cam.
First of all, I have a stock head that I may replace down the road. Right now the engine has Pertronix electronic ignition with 45k coil and Bosch plugs gapped @ 40. I have an Offy 4bbl with an Edelbrock 500 and Clifford headers with dual exhaust going on shortly. I want it streetable, but don't care too much about mileage. I have 3.23's in the rear with a 4 speed. Let's say I'm looking for 2 "steps up" from stock.
Lastly, Isky or Comp ?

Thanks as always

It sounds like the Isky 264 or the Comp 264 would be about right for you. I have heard better reports on the Isky, but I have no personal experience. I have run the Crane 228 @0.050" cam and it's OK, but no that great. Similar specs to the two above. Use at least 9-9.5:1 comp and you'll get a good idle and around 2200-5000 powerband.

OK now I need to know if I have to do head work before I install the cam. Will the valves clear if I don't?
Do I have to change anything else (pushrods, etc.)?
Anything besides timing chain that I might as well replace while the motor is open?
:? 8) :?

You will not have any valve to piston clearance issues with this cam and the pushrods will also work fine.
Cam, lifters, Tming chain, a new fuel pump and maybe an oil pump seeing those items must come-out to do the swap.
