Hey All,
The moderator on the DodgeTalkForum has generously endowed Lorrie Van Haul with an ORIGINAL Model SST-802 Sun Super Tachometer. This is NOT the NEW SST-802R. This is Tachometer made in the 60s.

The problem is: The label on the back of the Tachometer says that it is made for use with an eight cylinder, 12 Volt, Negative Ground Engine.

The NEW SST-802R has a switch on the obverse side that allows it to be used with 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 cylinder Engines.

The ORIGINAL SST-802 has no such switch.

BUT, there is a small, serrated, Black Knob in the center of the back side of this unit, shown here:

It turns, and has a slot for a small screw driver blade.

Am hoping against hope that THAT has something to do with changing the Tachometer's electronics so that it can be used on Lorrie's mighty 225 Slant Six Engine.

If it is not, Al, (the moderator) says that it can be used on Ms. American 3.14159 who has a 390 CID, P-Code, FE V8 Engine.

The question is: Does anyone know what THAT small, serrated, Black Knob on the back of the unit is for? Have done numerous searches, and have not found any mention of THAT Knob.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, Lorrie Van Haul has her NEW Insurance Documentation, her NEW Registration Sticker, and her NEW License Plates. It's too hot for me to be outside to install the Sticker and Plates, but will do that either this evening, or tomorrow morning.

Will go on Monday to see if Lorrie will pass inspection. If she does, Lorrie will get a fill up of gasoline, and we may go for a drive, probably staying close to home in case Lorrie decides that she wants to malfunction in some strange manner. Don't think she will, but one never knows. Only time will tell.

To adjust the "redline" needle up or down I would think?

Hey Rod,
Actually, the "Redline Needle Adjustment" is done from the FRONT of the Tachometer.

Turns out the knob on the obverse side is for calibration. It sets the RPM Needle to Zero.

Alas, the pictured Sun Super Tachometer Model SST-802 is for an Eight Cylinder Engine and won't work on Lorrie's mighty 225 Slant Six, so it is going to be installed in Ms. American 3.14159, the only 1964 Ford Galaxie 500, Four-Door, Hard-Top, Fast-Back, Police Interceptor that Google finds on the whole World Wide Web.

DANG a day late as usual, as I knew what the back adjustment was for... for setting 0 with the needle.. Oh well @ least ya can be kind of period correct in MsAmerica.... :lol: The SST-802R would be a suitable replacement for LVH.... Hope YOU are having a good day...
