just kinda curious i have a siezed up old slant and it doesnt seem worth the time to rebuild it since i have a running one in my shed but the siezed one looks like a much older one and has the spark plugs set into the head unlike the the running one (1985) iwas wondering if they were interchangable and if there was any performance value in doing a head swap?

The heads are interchangeable, provided you keep the valvetrain (including rocker arms) with its original motor. In other words, it sounds like you want to put an older head on an 85 motor. Keep the 85 pushrods, rocker arm shaft, and rocker arms and you should be fine.

The caveat is the rearmost rocker arm shaft hold down bolt. If memory serves, around 1978 Chrysler changed the rearmost rocker arm bolt to a stepped design. Pre-78 motors had a standard bolt. If the "older" motor is older than about 1978, then you have to drill out the rearmost bolt hole in the 85 rock arm shaft to 3/8 inches.

Not really, unless the seized motor predates 1967 and the use of the revised combustion chamber.

Vehicle year and model info. would be helpful... to get more detailed on engine swap info...

Basically, I would just install the 85 engine into the vehicle you have and start driving it again.

i havent got a clue what it came out of just found it lying out behind my buddies shop and he didnt want it so i figured maybe i could swap some parts and hopefully gain some power out of the 85

Most likely your 85 has some form of lean burn ignition or carburetor. You would be better served replacing the ignition with HEI and replacing the carb with a non-computer controlled one (if your local laws allow).

nice thing bout where i live i can run my truck straight pipe with whatever fuel system/ignition system i want we dont have any e-testing around here and the trucks older than 25 years so basically i can do whatever i want to it

and i dont think its a lean burn carb i swapped a 2280 holley onto it and im not sure about the ignition it has a setup on the drivers side fender with a bunch of wires and a vacuum line running from the carb to it im already asuming its the computer and i would be happy to tear it out. my dizzy has a vacuum advance and a single pickup so i wonder if i can run the advance right off the carb?
