help am alone ..no help[ ....have w-150,four speed....tran/transfercase still in truck .....engine has bell/clutch on it.... have jack under tran ,and engine hung on chainhoist/tripod...my problem is I can not get them to line up/drop together by myself,have been wiggleing /readjusting chain/jack for days now ....any hints????tips???? that I am overlooking????? HELP PLEASE

Can you describe where the assembly is hanging up and not going into place? Are you having a clearance issue between the bottom of the truck and the ground?

it is about two inches from sliding together, both motormounts are off....it bloody just dont want to slide together

Are the dowel pins lining up? The trans could have twisted when the engine was removed and thrown off the alignment.

Could your splines on the trans be off just a touch?

Use 2 long bolts or lengths of 7/16-14 threaded stock to go from the engine thru holes & into the bellhousing threaded holes, to help get the rotational alignment correct. (I use old SL6 head bolts)

Put the trans in gear and slowly rotate the output flange, you should feel the clutch to input shaft splines "clicking" against each other, as you rotate. (If you are in far enough)
At the point, turn & "Feel" your way into the clutch disc splines, then into the pilot bushing.

Did you use a good quality pilot / alignment tool to get the disc centered?

yes

head bolts too long and too small...found bolt from rear bearingcaps that are a bit small ,but lenght about right.....still not sliding together .....eeeeerrrrr

can you re insert the clutch pilot alignment tool into clutch plate through the bearing retainer hole in the flywheel housing ?
you will need to remove the throw out bearing and arm...

if it is set properly,,like Doc mentioned, the splines are not meshing, give the tranny input a little twist..

it is a w-150 4 wheel drive , has the big clutch,oversized bell,which need to be bolted to engine before flywheel.....so no turning output shaft....now have throwout arm removed, pressure plate unbolted......need to pry apart trans/engine to free /alaine clutch plate......just been hurting tooo much to do anything......

You got the right splines? I know that the early NP 435's had a course spline input shaft (I wasn't 23...)

no it the clutch giveing all the problem and is the same one that was there before...that and a bum shoulder/wrist ...yea both on the right arm..and noone to help...but I will get it

eeeeerrrrrrrrrrr....have release arm out, throwout bearing slide back on shaft,pressure plate slide back,two inch block of wood holding trans back away bell.....clutch plate WILL NOT SLIDE ON SHAFT ...engine on hoist,jack under trans IOD inatate object defiance

The last 2 I did, had to be drawn in with long bolts, like Doc said. tighten bolts a little, shake engine./tranny, repeat,repeat.......etc. It will go in.
