It's not a matter of the owner of the car getting ticketed or the car impounded. It's a matter of the shop violating Federal law and getting spanked with very stiff fines.
I understand that the shops get hit hard for installing without cats but so does the car owner/driver when they get busted driving without them. I'd prefer to not get fined.

(no chance of them clogging my mufflers, glasspacks)
Actually, there is. A few years back I installed a catco high-flow catalytic converter on my brother's 83 Dodge van. THe van was running a worn Carter BD at the time. Within several months the too-rich exhaust had caused the catalytic converter honeycomb to meltdown and blow apart. The honeycomb parts that blew out the back of the catalytic lodged in the muffler and clogged it.
Hmm guess thats out the window then.

I was doing some research on my lunch break and I came across these. They seem pretty straight forward. Thoughts on these?

Thanks for the help guys,
Aspen76

That is not a true catalytic converter and I doubt the muffler shop will install it. However, if you can weld and need to pass a visual inspection, then that product would work.

ALL modern cars in Australia do have cats. Correct me if I'm wrong I think it was around 1986 when cats had to be legal fitted on new cars, thus bringing in the more readilly avalible unleaded petrol and canning leaded fuels. Cats dont need to installed on early model cars if they wern't originaly fitted hence why my 62 will never get a one. Emmission controll was fitted around the late 70's. We now pay a carbon tax in Australa, we have some of the world's cleanest air and our government will try and suck as much out of us as they can. thieves...

Will do, very good to know that 75 was the first year with cats. Just have to hope no one knows that 76 was the first year for Aspens (according to wiki anyway).
I'd just have to pass off a very suspiciously placed piece of flex pipe as coincidental

Thanks guys,
