My carb is different from the one pictured in my '77 factory service manual
(I guess it's a later design w/ a different accelerator pump and no external positive throttle return spring).

Question is when when were those modifications introduced?

'78 was a transitional year for vans and the '77 production ran longer than previous years.
Sounds plausible that at some point Chrysler ran out of '77 carbs and started using the later model.
Am I right? I do hope I have the original carb in my van :)

Also if anyone is kind enough to provide me some scans of a later FSM depicting the model I have (design and service procedure) I would be grateful.

‪Uh-oh‬.

That means december 79, right?
Not as stock as I thought, and the idle limiter cap is missing :(
Should I start worrying?

OK, I didn't find any part number to confirm this, but I think I'm dealing with a '79 - unknown history/don't know why it was put there- '79 passenger car carburetor :(

According to the pics I found on autozone.com, accelerator pump is not even set correctly for manual trans:

I guess it explains the flat spot I have when accelerating from stop.

Any chance I can make that thing work correctly with my van and tune it for better mileage?
Should I finish rebuilding it or start looking for something more efficient?

Anyone with a '79 factory service manual or knowledge willing to help?

Holley Close limit jets are 3 digit for tight metering tolerences...

That's a 642, similar to a #64...#641 is lean, #642 is middle of the road, #643 would be on the rich side of a #64 jet...

In comparison 1974 Holley 1945 for cars came with a #58, and Holley 1945 in 1976 cars came #612....

Yep, I removed it.

Bought a Walker kit thinking I had the original carb and a complete cleaning and rebuild would help solving the hesitation issue and improve mileage a bit.
Started to tear it down until I had the feeling that something was wrong.

Maybe throwing more time and money at it isn't such a good idea if I'm not able to make it work properly (except maybe for learning purpose).

Thanks for the info guys.

Hey guys,

Can someone enlighten me on what exactly were the flaws with '74-'75 1945's that made them weaker than later models.
Can they be corrected with proper tuning and re-jetting?

I might have found a 74 carb with all the setup for manual trans,
but if I also need a 76+ auto core to make a proper working carb it might not be such a good deal :(

So, if by chance someone has a 76-79 (non remanufactured) rebuildable unit that he won't use,
I might be interested (I'll have to check what cross-border shipping costs would be though).

Thanks

Some 74's like mine came with a 58 jet.
I put a 61 in it and it was fine.
