Gday again.

While lapping the valves on my stock 225 head ,I noticed the No1 exhaust valve was very loose in its guide.
All others seem fine ,however I have not checked as yet with a dial gauge ,as I dont have that device"yet".
rocker tip was very worn too.

Some questions.
1. Is this something seen often.( loose exhaust valve No 1)?
2. If so why?

Thanks in advance .
Brendan.

It is common for the exhaust valves to be loose over time with wear, but doubt it is common for a specific valve location over another.

#1 exhaust is the last valve to get oil during start-up and rocker shaft "filling".
Usually not an issue, if you have good oil flow to the rocker shaft and all the rocker arm oil feed holes are clear & oiling out the tips.

Now you mention that, I remember that the front end of the rocker shaft seemed very dry on running.
May have had something to do with the rear camshaft bearing holes, being only about 1/4 open.
The cam journal holes also did not line up with bearing holes.
Not sure if this is by design?
The new camshaft being installed this weekend( camshaft Failed) has a groove around the journal .I made sure all new cam bearing holes are fully exposed.(as per FSM)
This should help with oiling all rockers, and provide extra oil to top of the honed lifter bores.
Only issue may be lower pressure to mains and big ends.
I will look into working around that.

Thanks again
Brendan
