I picked up a good deal on a new 3.55 motive gear set from Jegs through their price match guarantee it took about 3 weeks but finally got here. this will be my first attempt at a gear change so if you have any pointers or useful information I would really appreciate it. pictures would be great....I read the directions and it seems the hardest thing will be setting the tolerances.

Here's a pic with part number for the gear. It will show up around $269 but I used there price match and got it for $189 took three weeks to get here though not a stocked part. I will look for the link I sent them for the discount, and post it on here for you.

Did you remove the bolts at the brakes that holds the axles in?

I beleive you need to pull the pin that holds the spider gears in the case, pin is held in with 5/16 head bolt. After pin is out push axles into case C clips should fall out, then pull axles out

That's only on the 8 1/4" and 9 1/4" mopar rear axle, they are doing a 7 1/4" which is actually more like the 8 3/4" for axle retainage but does not have the drop out 3rd member...(in this case they have to remove the retainer at the axle ends to remove the axle).

Fyi,
I was able to remove the pinion bolt by placing a pry bar for back up and using a good impact. Did not need the special tool.
