first off, i'm talking about a '68 A108.
got home from a run to San Diego , Monday nite, and the wheels locked up as i parked. from the side of the vehicle, it appears the yoke entering the differential is broken. it did engage enuff for me to ease it up into the driveway for repairs. but at one point it disengaged and needed to be pushed by hand. then it reengaged until parked.

assuming the broken pieces are accessible, is this yoke something that should be able to slide out with disassembling the pumpkin?

what r the chances this part could break and not do damage deeper inside?

I doubt you broke the yoke, but it's not impossible. If the pinion nut came loose then you're likely to have gear and possibly bearing damage. Pull the 3rd member.
