Hi Guys,

Looks like the geometry of our clutch fork for the bell-housing in the Toad wont work. We used a bell housing with the ball pivot as shown here.... http://www.brewersperformance.com/prodd ... LL&cat=102 but the fork is too long in our particular application. I also have another O.D. bell-housing that uses the slotted bar mount instead of the ball mount (with shorter fork) but am not sure if I have the correct fork. How does one tell if it's the correct fork and should the fork ends center on the throw-out bearing? Thanks for any help!

Regards,
John Brayton

The ballstud bellhousing is only for 1981-1987 Trucks/Vans and the fork is too long by a couple of inches compared to the A-body. The 1975-1980 A/F body bellhousing with the slot would be better for the application, the 'nub' in the forks should catch the wire clips on the TOB and the fork clip should engage to be correct. You should be able to also use an earlier fork with that style of bellhousing as well if needed.

Thanks DI....we're pulling the engine AGAIN tomorrow and installing the other bell-housing. I have two forks in the shop...one is straight and one has a slight bend. Both are the same length from pivot to end of fork. I gather from your response that either could work? Again, we're using an O.D. tranny with a hydraulic slave.

Yes they should, I will be at my shop today and can take measurements of mine got a few laying around...)

Next concern, are you using an aftermarket slave or is it a stock item off a 1980's truck? (Concern here is the stock mopar unit off the truck can be sluggish after a time, and is fine for street driving, but don't expect it to perform when drag racing or passing hard.)

Hi DI,

It's an aftermarket for the Toad..... I also drive a 59 D100 with the stock slave mated to our 4 speed with granny low.

Thanks again for your insights and help.

Installed the other bell-housing this morning and discovered all of the forks were too short. Called Brewers to see if they had a correct one and Wayne said they make a bolt-in pivot bracket that allows me to use the shorter fork. It's ordered and will be here Monday......can't wait!!

Sounds like a good plan:

FYI,

Truck Ballstud fork is 13.25" from end of fork to end of bushing eyelet.
Standard late A/F-body fork (3 and 4 speed) is 12.5" end to end
The mid-60's A-body fork I have is much shorter at 10.25" but does not have the eyelet for the bushing but a receiver for the actuator rod.
