So in my grand adventures of restoring my 68, I got a ticket for something I was aware of. No reverse lights. Any help on locating the switch would be sooooooo helpful, I found on on the steerin column but it seems to be okay, is this like the Chevys and there's a second on the tranny?

You got a motor vehicle or equipment citation?
That does not sound right. Never heard of such a thing. I would have to double check, but I think backup lights were an "OPTION" in 1968. So you should be able to beat the ticket if I am correct.

All 1968 Valiants I've seen (and driven) have the white lense for reverse, my '67 had them and the switch is in the steering column (forget when they moved it to the transmission again -'68/'69?).

Here in my town, if you are spotted backing out and no taillights (unless you can prove it's factory equipment), it's a ticket.

Check you states motor vehicle requirements (why would you be required to have backup lights). They would be for drivers ability to see what is behind them not so others to know you are in reverse.
There should be a switch at the transmission check there.

Yes I have the lenses and the bulbs are brand new, just no power to. I found a switch on the steering column, but I am unsure how to test it

Using the '66 Plymouth FSM scabbed from http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=109 and assuming you have a column shifted automatic, it looks like a Violet wire with tracer from the 'b' pin on the wiper switch feeds power to the b/up lamp switch where the other plain violet wire then sends power to rear via the 6 pin rear lamp harness connector.

This is both new and strange to me as I was just looking this up the other day for my car and it is similar with power coming from the wiper switch. If I'm right about what my old eyes are seeing, I suppose it would work fine so long as there is power on the violet/tracer wire from the wiper switch, to the b/up lamp switch, which in turn actually closes when reverse is selected and thereby transferring the love juice to the plain Violet wire to the rear lamp harness where everything else is just fine and dandy. So, me starts thinking about the switch function and switch/shifter adjustment if power is delivered there but no further (or I need a nap or new glasses or both)..

I just went through this last week in my 67 valiant. If you have multi meter disconnects the connector going to the switch. Put it in reverse and check for continuity across the terminals of the switch and check for power coming to the connector. I had to take out the switch, I sprayed it down with WD-40 and worked it back and fourth until I could see the contacts get shiny again.

Have someone watch the reverse lights while you shift from P thru 1 & back to P with the ignition switched on (if you have breaker points don't leave the key on for more than a minute or so!) If the the lights flicker or come on at all then the BU switch is gitchy or mis-adjusted.

If they don't come on at all, unplug the BU switch, use a bit of wire to jumper the 2 terminals (colors are White & Violet according to my 68 FSM). Turn ignition on & see if lights work now. If so then BU switch is bad.

If not check for 12V power at the white wire-(comes from the radio power feed & then from the radio fuse)- trace towards fuse block if no power. Trace Violet wire towards BU lights if you do have 12V.

My 68 Dart had the same problem, no backup lights. Turned out that the switch (at the bottom of the column) was being pressed, but not quite enough.

Adjusting the switch solved the problem.

And man do I feel stupid. So apparently they have worked the whole time. However the switch on the column was adjust to where when u go from park to reverse it hits dead center in between. Loosened the switch and slide it a quarter inch to the right and presto majically fixed!!!. Oh and just
FYI on 68 valiants the back up light switch gets it power from the white wire off the radio
