V-8 transplants into late 60s era A body vehicles is a topic that has ben covered hundreds of times in various magazines and on websites for the past 40 years. You would get a faster answer to your question if you went over to a web board like for a bodies only and searched. They advocate ripping out the slant six on a regular basis.

The problem with putting a v-8 in an A body like your dart is that the engine bay is rather constrained, especially around the steering column. You usually have to track down a set of the A body specific exhaust manifolds or run aftermarket headers.

Tune up parts I would use the 84 van as the vehicle.

I suggest spending the $$$ on Frank Adkins "Chrysler Performance Upgrades" first, reading the sections on engine swaps and suspension upgrades, First Chapter is Brake Upgrades...then start asking questions...It's all pretty well covered there, including the necessities of brake/suspension/cooling upgrades...

That will save the frustrations being voiced here by members and yourself.

Well, the 360 was offered in A-bodies from 74-76, though I'd think that 340 manifolds (68-73) should work as well. You'll have to search swap meets, junkyards (Desert Valley maybe?) or repops.

Another thing, AFAIK if your donor engine is from a truck, then you'll need a diiferent oil pan & pickup to fit in an A-body.

He could also probably use the 1976-1980 F body manifolds and oil pan, but like the A-body, few F-bodies were produced that way as well. He's about 30 years too late, City of Salem in the 80's auctioned off their old public vehicles and I know one of my classmates ended up with an Aspen that was optioned with the 360/727/9 1/4" (probably most was custom at the city shop).most in the auction were slant six cars, and some 4 barrel 318 F-bodies...

The good old days... (you know when you could flip burgers for a few months and get a 383 Challenger, because the muscle 70's guy had a family and had to get rid of the 'loud car'...)

Yep. Old cars are a rich man's game unless you get really lucky.

The only time your going to need to tell a parts Guy the motor is out of a van is if you get your parts at autozoe types of places and there only good for getting oil. I prefer Napa type of place es be aide the know how to look in books and don't rely on computers.

i hate to say it, but NAPA is starting to go the way of the others. they do still have good parts, but certain items have been deleted, like head bolts for a ford 300.

The NAPA stores here are the same way, they have young kids behind the counter and computers for parts look up, very few books anymore...

I get the part number and manufacturer for what I want and give them only that. Napa is good that way, others are hit and miss. Some places really appreciate that I did all the research.

This deal has been covered a lot. I'm converting my '66 barracuda from a v8 to a slant 6

273 was already gone and I have slant stuff laying. I heard I would need a '63-66 pan and pickup which I will have to buy when I get some funding...

To the op, engineswaps.com has the v8 conversion mounts you seek. Or google schumacher engine swap. Swap has been covered many times.

You will need a passenger car oil pan and pickup from a 360. Van/truck application will not work nor will one from a 318...
