UV dye showed oil pump site of oil leak, got oil pump off but there isn't room to pull it fully out of the engine even without the cover. Can I get it out without pulling the engine since that means a trip to a mechanic shop? I just need maybe 1 more inch room, its a 1985 Ram D100 225. Any advice appreciated, first time on forum, thanks

The exhaust may complain where it hooks up to the head pipe. Disconnect and drop the head pipe to keep from tearing the donut up, if so equipped.

Make sure you adequately support the engine once you've lifted it, or jacked it up. If it comes down, you can loose appendages.

Think safety whenever doing work of this sort. You should disconnect the battery too. Anytime your under the hood, it's good practice. :D

Thanks for the input, my main concern was what would not tolerate the onesided engine lifting and need disconnecting....radiator drain and hoses off? Too bad they left an inch too little space
