As most of you know my 69 already has a 3.55 rear (that I just put back in!) and cross drill & slotted rotors now she got her long awaited super six! 500 cfm holley 2300 on a machined Dev 22 Manifold. This project is done, just for fun I will post a new set of picts every day ( damn drop box - because of a iphone failure! ) so when they come in I will post them. ENJOY I know I am!

Casually looking for a Clifford hyperpak intake for cheap.

Looks good but the air cleaner is too small for that size carb, a standard size air cleaner will provide enough surface area to allow proper air flow even with some dust in the media. If the carb doesn't get enough air through the filter it will act rich (lack of air + regular jetting = more fuel than air) and throw your tuning off (and possibly adding more problems with the 500 on top of it's known tuning issues).

Thanks for the info Duster Idiot, I have had really good luck with this carb and so far had no tuning issues. Re-Jetting it back down to dual #60
I have been thinking about a new air cleaner with a lower profile, but I will have to wait till I have the funds for that.

Did you cut your intake manifold to match the adapter plate? (two holes to one oval hole?)

Yes.

I wanted to cut more on the left side (top in the pictures) but the machine shop was worried that it could do harm to the intake.

Since I was / am doing so much to the car I figured I would grab a few parts from my former employer - Wildcat Auto Wrecking:



I mounted the carb to mock up the throttle cable bracket and Kick down rod setup, After a few minor mods It was a go!



I have a bunch of electric chokes but I am keeping the choke manual because my choke cable and handle are so bad ass! (off an old dodge truck!) And it looks uber freaking cool on the car!

Photos .... I do have some minor problems with my kickdown rod, It is a true super six, but i have the funny clip n rod linkage on the tranny so I will need to finish that up with other parts, I do have a passing gear just not as strong as I like. Enjoy the shots, I broke a lot of bolts but I have a torch,air hammer and a welder so It got done right, this car has NEVER ran so good!

Addendum:

ok the manual choke, which I love on my yellow dart ... is totally annoying the crap out of me on my daily driver.

I am pulling a few of my electric chokes off my 2300 collection and installing one monday after work.



I love the choke handle and the cool retro yummyness of that but not when i am trying to handle my morning coffee and fight thru seattle traffic at the same time. ... not cool!
I guess that is the same reason that this car is still an automatic, with power steering and disc breaks.

so this is going bye bye ....



oh and I used my old skewl emissions "sniffer" and yes I am running rich, so I HAVE to get a bigger air cleaner and dial in the carb a bit better.
this carb was tuned for Marilyn and not for a daily driver with a mostly stock exhaust. I have a nice stainless steel muffler (small import style) and some 2.25" pipe so I will head on down to the exhaust shop next week and get that going as soon as I have the time.
