Would that pulley being loose cause serious shaking in the engine?

Original poster here... Found out what the high pitched metal squeal was, the sleeve on the middle crankshaft pulley completely came apart and is now AWOL. Also found that most of the valves were a little loose and that coolant was getting into the oil and the combustion chamber. I pulled the manifold bolts and resealed the manifold bolts, changed the oil, filter, spark plugs, and the PVC valve. Do I have to worry about that coolant causing serious damage inside the engine block? It didn't seem like much go in there because my reservoir was still fairly full.

WOAH. You need a new vibration damper, STAT. If I read your post correctly, it sounds like the outer ring on the vibration damper not only came loose from the center ring, but disintegrated and flew away. That's pretty impressive.

Loose valves and coolant in the combustion chamber will cause rough running, but I would continue to monitor the oil and coolant to make sure you don't have a leak coming from somewhere besides the manifold mounting studs.

Like I said, just keep an eye on the condition of the coolant and oil for cross-contamination.

Josh- no worries. I have misread things lots of times. Sorry my response was so short. I was feeling a bit grumpy that day.

Last time I checked, slant six manifold studs do go into the water jacket, but if they are not sealed that would cause an EXTERNAL coolant leak. If you have coolant in the oil & combustion chambers then you have an internal leak such as bad headgasket or maybe even a cracked head or block.

I am aware that coolant in the combustion camber could be a cracked head or block. I'm hoping that is not the case though. Last time I had an issue with coolant getting into the combustion chanber it was the manifold bolts that caused the issue, the bolts weren't cometely sealed and the coolant was soaking through the manifold gasket and getting into the intake ports. I just hope I don't have anymore serious issues with the slant right now. If I do I might just pull it, scrap it, and put a small block in the swinger. I don't really want to do that though; I'd prefer to keep the slant six in the car.
