code is 7587, not 7586 as depicted on our beloved internet :x

and the throttle shaft has slop, brand is Vapex

two questions
is this the Economaster I want?
how much slop is acceptable in the throttle shaft? I never get an answer

my Holley EFI on my Jeep has ZERO play

Well I was angry because the number didn't match. I went and measured and the slop is 2-3 hundreths of an inch. Enough to move the shaft back and forth laterally and see a gap. Same gap on both sides.

Now I'm a bit calmer. SSDan says 7587 is '73 Economaster. Researching the slop tolerance on the net now and not coming up with much.

Sean,

You can tell an Economaster in a millisecond, by looking down the throat.....
Does it have a wagon wheel venturi? or does it look like a Hamm radio antenna? Mine part number is 7585.....

On the shaft......mine had a fair amount of slop even when it was brand new!
Don't worry about it.....it idles perfectly at 2 turns out and the engine pull 19" of vacuum at idle, never missing a beat at 600 rpm in gear for hours in traffic.

You can check the pictures and numbers on mine by clicking on the red link below.

Hi Ted

It's the wagon wheel!
and this one has EGR (not as excited about that, but what the hay)

The base gasket is different from the 1945. Does it even matter?

Sean,

I use the EGR port for alcohol/water injection. I like it better than the EGR for knocking back the timing. Besides it keeps the engine clean and idle crisp!

Yes the gaskets are very different. In fact, I use the super thick (almost a half inch thick) Fel-Pro gasket under mine. That helps reduce heat soak as does the heat deflector and electric fans. It all goes along way to stop loosing all the gasses during normal heat soak and for quick hot restarts.

I have heard cars crank and crank and crank trying to make a hot restart. Mine will fire off and start immediately.

Thanks...a little pricey for me. I'm hoping to find a used one to rebuild myself.

I know I paid too much. But I love this freaking truck so it doesn't bother me. Plus I need to buy what I want before I retire and don't have the cash to squander.

Believe me, I've been there and done that. The love of a truck has convinced me to pay top dollar for a 1bbl carb in the past….

I love both trucks, one looks very clean and original/un-restored and the other looks like a very clean restoration.
