Hello,
My father left me and my son a 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger, Slant-6, 225
The CA car is basically in great shape. Missing only the front fender emblems. Chrome bumpers in decent shape...etc..

I did get it started, with a few gallons of gas, now sputters and cuts out. I heard that you're the site to get advice on! The car was sitting, but my father started it once and awhile.

Please advise on the 'best parts/part numbers/brand' you recommend these days for this 1970 Dart?

Dutra Dual's:
Exhaust System Type: Y-pipe, H-pipe, X-pipe, Dual, or?
Exhaust pipe diameter size:
Exhaust pipe material, SS, galvanized?
Muffler:
Plug Wires:
Spark Plugs:
Plug Inserts:
Fan Belts:
Cap & Rotor:
Points or Electronic upgrade:
New distributor:
Coil:
Intake Manifold: What is that Hyper Pac? or something?
Rebuilt or Upgrade carb? Single, Double, 4-Barrel
Air Filter:
Fuel Filter:
Other concerns?

Thanks for your help to get me and my son going on this. We are planning to keep it in the family with my son and nephew as owners. Looking towards your recommendations !

Ken

Congratualtions on your inheritance!

Before we can advise you on the upgrade path we think might be your best choice, please let us know what your intended use of the vehicle is. Daily driver? Weekend cruiser? 1/4 mile dragster? The end use dictates the "best" parts to use.

At a minimum, I recommend upgrading to electronic ignition ( I like the HEI upgrade discussed elsewhere on this site ), 2 1/2 inch single exhaust with a free flowing muffler for a mostly stock motor. On the safety and comfort side I prefer to upgrade to at least 14 inch rims and front disc and rear drum brakes. This can be a somewhat involved upgrade though, since it usually involves swapping the rear axle and most of the front suspension.

It sounds like you are pretty new to the slant six and Dart and Valiant world. Your best course of action will probably be to spend some time browing this website and see what others have done and what gets talked about.

Pictures are always appreciated!

Welcome to the forum, Ken and kin. I second Reed's advice for planning before decid8ing on specific parts/brands/suppliers. His recommendation of electronic ignition and free-flowing exhaust will really perk the car up,
not break the bank and those mods will be useful whatever else y"all do to the car.

Now, about that "sputters and cuts out" part: It could be as simple as a clogged fuel filter. I would flush the tank and fuel lines with fresh fuel first then replace the fuel filter. However, it's likely there is gunk in the carb
and a rebuild may be called for. Most of us here have had bad experience with rebuilt carbs from the generic auto parts stores - I recommend against them. There are several carb rebuilders that claim to do a thorough job of
restoring your carb to factory condition. I've not heard anything bad about them, but I haven't used them, either.

Since it's a family project, I recommend rebuilding the carb as a " Slant Six 101 course" If you and the crew do that together, I think you will all benefit. Carb rebuilding is really simple if you follow the instructions in the kit.
And here I think the generic parts store kits are pretty much OK. Just take your time and pay attention while ya take the carb apart, inspect and clean it and put it back together. Those specialty rebuilders generally have kits and instructions which may be better/more complete, etc.

Others here will have much more to offer.
