Below are the rule updates for the 2014 racing season.

#1 Rookie of the year definition was updated to the following.
This award shall go to the Slant 6 points racer that scores the highest number of points during that season and who has not participated in more than one race weekend previous to this season. Attendance points given at a rained out event shall not prevent a person from being eligible for Rookie of the Year in a future year.

#2 Points for breaking a record
Points awarded for setting/breaking a record will be raised from 5 points to 20 points.

#3 Attendance points
Attendance points awarded shall remain at 5 points for each race attended.

#4 Attendance points cap
Attendance points will be capped at 60 points per season. These points include regular scheduled races, rained out races, and rescheduled races.

#5 Classification of E-85
For record setting purposes E-85 will be treated /classified as alcohol.

#6 Nitromethane ban
Nitro-Methane is banned from Slant 6 racing, unless the driver wishing to run it receives written permission from the track to be raced at. For the purpose of breaking/setting records it will be considered in the Unlimited Class. A copy of the written permission MUST be submitted to Seymour with the time slips and record form to be considered.

#7 Declaring races as non-points races
Racers will not be required to declare any races that they will not count for points prior to a race. Points will be counted from each drivers five (5) best races, out of all races attended, and all attendance points earned (Up to the cap of 60). It is assumed in good faith that each coast will attempt to schedule approximately the same number of races.

***Note - I do not think the West Coast voted on this, but it really is not a change from last year since we did not have a maximum number of races last year either. The East racers were unanimous in keeping it simple and not having a maximum number of races to take your best 5 from. Just run as many races as you wish and take your 5 best. One coast may have more races than the other and they were all fine with that too.

Rick

I put the changes up with some minor changes to the fuel types into the current rules. Take a look.

E-85 classification would go into the records form. I put a blurb in about Nitro-Methane. As it isn't strictly speaking prohibited, based on the language of the exception, I didn't use that word. If it can be used based on conditions, it isn't prohibited.

The final bit wasn't on the ballot for the West Coast. The argument last year IIRC was that if someone wanted to declare out of points, they should be allowed to do so. It's been a while. Can't remember who had the debate to keep that language. Lou?

Describe how you want the wording, and I'll slap it in there. Any Admin or full Moderator can edit a locked thread, such as the racing rules.

Ceej,

I see you added this to the rules.
Quote:
-Gasoline shall meet the definitions put forth by the sanctioning body of the track, example, NHRA or IHRA.
Just so everyone knows, we on the East did discuss adding some definition of what gasoline is, to the rules. We decided unanimously to leave it out and felt like it just wasn't needed. Whatever gasoline is at the time as dictated by the government...etc would be considered gas. I think we were trying to just keep it simple and use common sense.

Under Nitromethane - you left out: " For the purpose of breaking/setting records it will be considered in the unlimited class"

I don't think the last part about declaring races needs to be added into the "official" rules. It is not a change from last year. It was more of a re-affirming that we did not want to start declaring a certain # of races and that we would continue to take your best 5.
That's just my opinion.

The whole segment in the rules about declaring races seems null and void to me if there is no limit on the number of races that we can enter for points.

Rick

I agree. There was an argument for those that don't want points. I've met a couple actually.

I thought it was Lou that wanted to leave that there, in the case someone didn't want to earn points. Might have been someone else. Just can't remember.

I'll fix the unlimited class.

The only reason I added the gasoline definition was we have identified other fuels. It's easy enough to pull out. Since the E85 definition is for record purposes only, should it be identified as such in the rules or on the record application? In effect, we could remove most of the verbiage surrounding fuels from the rules themselves.

I believe Rob mentioned that, last year. Not sure I remember the reasoning.

Perhaps the fuel definitions should go in the "Rules for breaking a record" since that is where they would come into play. And also on the record form if needed.

I would personally like to see the "Rules for breaking records" added at the end of the regular Slant 6 racing rules. That way they are all together. But that is just me!

OK. Take another look. We can work on adding the record rules to the bottom.

Yeah, it was me.

I gave one of my infamous, disjointed, incomprehensible explanations of why I thought we should leave it in. Just take it out.

Here's the post from the other thread: I come in with my 8-10 cents around page 3. http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=52276
Quote:
The following portion of the rules is dated, and should be removed.

-A competitor may elect to waive points at a race he has already entered as long as he does so before the first round pairings are determined. If you wish to waive points you must communicate this decision to the SSRN representative and/or at least two other race entrants. This must be done before the first round ladder is drawn up.

CJ
I asked Seymour for clarification on this last year as well. There are still racers that, for whatever personal reason, may want to race with us and not earn points.

The wording of the rule doesn't negatively effect anything else. It just gives those racers an opportunity to waive points if they so choose.

It's at the end of the year and it's a close race for the Championship! It's between me, Cookie and a Killer Bee.

The Killer Bees have run their last race of the season, so it's Cookie's last chance at the season ender at Mason-Dixon to win the Championship. The Killer Bee is 6 points up on me and Cookie. I like that Killer Bee and would like to see him/her win, but I sure don't want my arch nemesis to win, so... I throw the Championship in favor of that Killer Bee by waiving points and hope that I get paired up with Cookie to knock him out of the running!

See? It could happen...

Funny me, I just thought everyone did their best and then let the best man win!

I even tried to beat Ron and take his Championship the last race of the year. I really am dumb!

If you are that close why wouldn't you want to win the championship yourself?

No matter how you set the rules there will always be someone who wants to play games.

Like Rick said, give it your best shot and let it all come out in the wash.

I am totally happy with the discussion here. #7 does not need to be in there, from my view. Having a set of "record rules" would be good.

All the best,
Lou

I totally disagree with bullet 3 in the races/events paragraph. If you lost the round be a man, shut up, and deal with it.

This exact scenario happened to me, I cut an .018 light and ran my dial exactly won the round and had to re-run. I lost the re-run because I was pissed off at having to re-run a near perfect race.

I was just giving an example of why someone could potentially want to waive points. It really doesn't matter to me.

I just need to know how to keep track of points.
