I'm sure I am making this a lot harder than it is supposed to be, but I am having one heck of a time removing the bottom nut from the stud that holds the starter to the bellhousing. The top bolt unscrewed with some difficulty also, but at least it would budge. I applied some PB Blaster to the stuck offender in hopes it would eat through years of rust, but it has not helped. Suggestions welcomed. I can't seem to get a tool on the nut and use the leverage necessary to give the nut a twist or two. Thank you.

What tool(s) have you tried?

If its rust, you may want to soak it, let it sit (maybe overnight), and soak it some more. Get a good sized closed end wrench on it, or a socket, ratchet and short extension to bring you out just beyond the starter....

Should be pretty straight forward... Hopefully theyre not cross-threaded on there or you'll be fighting it with every little turn.

Well, I finally got the starter bolts removed, but another problem has developed. I guess the starter was an original since it has no intention of being removed. I smacked the starter pretty good a couple of dozen times, and used a major pry bar to try and loosen things up, but to no avail. Ideas?? Thanks.

A block of wood and a quick firm rap with a big hammer. I would lay something soft under it too catch it and break its fall if you care at all about re-using it.

Finally...starter is off! Turns out it was almost welded to the bell housing, a condition caused by excessive corrosion. I used a long pry bar and a lot of sweat in removing the starter. I think it may have been the original starter! After a lot of clean up and scraping, I managed to put in the new starter without any difficulty. Thanks to all who waded through my previous questions and pleas for help.
