anyone have a idea on what the sleeves are intended for that were included with the rear main seal kit?

the black sleeves are the replacements,, the whitish sleeves were inside the mounting bolt holes on the OE retainer.

if the threaded holes on the c case that the retainer mounts to were counter bored to accept a portion of the sleeves I could see that perhaps the sleeves would guard against oil penetrating across the mounting flats,, but there is no counter bore,,

any ideas?

I believe those sleeves are there to "positively" locate the seal retainer - front to back. They fill in the empty space between the hold down bolt shank & the retainer bolt bore.
