Hey there. Not droppin' my /6, don't jump on my back :D

my other car has a 318 in it. A friend of mine offered me a freshly rebuilt 383 he had in a boat (I have to remove the bigger oil pan and get some original, and I'll bolt a manual 4 gearbox (not OD)

My biggest doubt is (LOL) I've never seen a 383 before since the 318 was the bigest engine that Argentina division of Chrysler ever built down here... so have plenty of doubts like

will a 383 fit under the hood? is that a big block or small block? what about the oil pan (the 383 I'm about to get has a overdimensioned one for marine application) should the oil pan from a 318 fit? is the 383 much more large than a 318?

I know I'm making a fool out of myself, but really need the advice.

Thanks to you all.

What kind of car is it going into? You will need a pan designed for the particular body style. I've seen 383's/400's in plenty of A bodys, even a couple of early A bodys (note: alot of work to make fit, but they will). Kits are available to put a B block into a car equiped with a SB. Hang on when you light the fuse on an A body big block car....

Hey

this is the car.
It's an B-body (been told so) entirely produced in Argentina (the frame and most of the accesories). To me it kinda plays with the B-body exterior but i think that is somewhat an hybrid car. the interior looks very a-body to me. this cars used to have either /6's or 318. I have to say that the 318 fits more cozy than /6 that are longer... the rear end is a dana 44 model 3.37:1 (but I can take advantage of the closer ratio using some biger tires on the back...) the front suspension it kinda looks like an american mid 60's dart...

here it goes the pix

8) Thanks! I love it. I had 8 cars of this very same model, and 3 2 door versions of the same. The 4 doors is called "coronado" (something like coronet in spanish) and the 2 door is called GTX and bears the same logo as american GTX's. I'm trying to build up my beauty... I guess that if the 383 ain't fits I'll throw in a very builted up /6, with 2 1 bbl carbs, head work, solid lifters, twisty cam, dual ex and manual tranny not OD.

I dont think this is an B-Body, everything about it looks like an A-Body. It even has a 67-69 A-Body style dash in it. Narrow area between fenders and the hood... anyway its clearly a later body... any A-Body 67 and after should be able to take a 383 pretty easy. That is assuming that its like US cars.. You will have to either get a new K-member, or get a Small Block to Big Block mount conversion kit sense the mounts on the K-member ar differnt for /6's Small Blocks and Big blocks...

The more I look at it... the more I think its an A-Body...

Very interesting! Looks like an A- body to me, too.

That does look like an A body. However, I do believe a B body oil pan will work in an A body. If I remember right, only the C body pans had clearance notches for either the pitman or idler arm (can't remember which one). Schumacher Creative Industries (don't know if they have a web site, they advertise in Mopar magizines) makes conversion kits for either slant six to SB/BB or SB to BB. A friend converted his '69 slant six Barracuda to a 400 using Schumacher mounts and their headers and everything fit like a glove, even kept his power steering.

Yeah, its an A-body alright. But, looking at it again, I can see the resemblance to a '68 C-body. It's like a mini Fury. Weird, but kinda cool.

if someone nows where i can find those kits on the internet, I'll appreciate the info. mopar magazines are rather difficult to find in my f...ing country  grrrr

call me lazy but I'd love to keep my power steering... 8)

I did some more thinking today about your swap. I can give you a basic outline sense I have helped a few people do this.

First off you likly wont be able to use Power steering or power brakes, due to lack of room in the engine bay.

Also you should change the torsion bars to handle the extra weight.

Also the largest problem you might have is exhuast. normally you cant just use any BB exhuast manifolds sense they tend to be to large. so you have 2 choices here, finding old set of BB a-Body exhuast, or get a set of headers..

Here is the website I suggest you getting parts from.
